During your free time, you may visit the famous Marienbrücke bridge, weather and access conditions permitting. Suspended high above the spectacular Pöllat Gorge, the bridge offers one of the most iconic views of Neuschwanstein Castle and the surrounding Bavarian Alps—an ideal spot for taking unforgettable photos. Please note that it takes approximately 45 minutes to walk to the bridge, and the walk includes uphill sections, so comfortable footwear and a reasonable level of fitness are recommended. Access may be restricted at short notice due to weather, maintenance work, or safety concerns.

Excellent tour of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castle. The guide (Felicia) on the coach was fantastic and gave us a lot of history and facts. She outlined a detailed plan of the day with timings so we can plan our trip. We chose not to buy castle tour tickets and instead used the time to tour the outside of the castles and gardens on our own and climb uphill to Marienbrucke (Mary’s bridge) for a gorgeous view of the fairytale castle. The line for the bus was massive so we walked uphill (this can be tiring so need trainers) and there is also a line for the bridge but it is worth the wait! As we were on our own, we took some time to paddle in Lake Alpsee and take a pedal boat around the lake. A lovely day had by all. Top tip: many places in this region are cash only so bring lots of Euros!
