Munich Old Town Walking Tour in English

Description
During our tour we will talk about both the light and dark pages of German history. We will learn about the history of Bavaria from the Roman beginnings of the city, through 700 years during which it was ruled by one powerful family, the Wittelsbachs, to the unification of Germany by Bismarck in the 19th century. We will see the places where Nazism was born, but also those where Joseph Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI, worked while still an archbishop. During the morning tour we will also see the Glockenspiel - a show of knightly figure fights in the city’s carillon. Take a walk with us and get to know a city that combines like no other seemingly contradictory fields: history and motoring, art and technology, entrepreneurship and a specific lifestyle of Munich people, which is a mixture of self-confidence, freedom and cheerfulness. Perhaps all these contradictions are seamlessly united by what is most important to Munich people… beer!

Karl provided an informative and interesting tour of Old Town Munich. Now that I know more about Munich, I wish we had more time to explore the city! The background and history of Munich and Bavaria was new to me and now I have a better idea of Munich's importance in tech.
Perfect for us as first time in Munich. Very well spoken guide (Karl). Highly recommend.
So great!!! Our guide Bridget was fantastic. Worth every penny.
This was informative and interesting. Unfortunately, weather was problematic turning cooler and raining so not as enjoyable as we hoped. Guide was very knowledge.
Carl was very good and knowledgeable of the city.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable & interesting. The only suggestion I would have is to use some type of microphone & earbuds as I couldn’t always hear her depending on where I was standing.
Karl was a fun and engaging tour guide
