This is a great experience! The mochi making part is so much fun but to understand the mochi history and what it means in Japan is even more meaningful for the kiddo to learn. This is the best activity we’ve done in Tokyo.
It was a very fun and easy class. The instructor Sakura was very patient and explained everything in detail. My 13yo son is a huge mochi fan. Now he can’t wait to get back home and make some mochi for his friends! Definitely recommend it if you are a mochi fan and have a couple of hours to kill in Tokyo.
My family had a great experience at this Mochi making class. The instructor was so patient with my boys and she made this process seem easy. We had fun and enjoyed the fruits of our labor!
I wanted to take a mochi course with a friend during our trip to Japan, and we chose this one. We were greeted by the sweet little poodle Choco and Sakura-Sensei, while the dog stayed outside during the course. Sakura-Sensei is very charming and speaks quite good English, which allowed us to have a good conversation. In addition to the actual making of the sweets, she also shared some background knowledge about some traditional mochi-like sweets, as well as some history about her neighborhood, and was able to recommend a temple that we could directly include in our travel plans. I found it a bit funny that there was a dedicated photo spot for the sweets. Unfortunately, I am not skilled at photographing food, but it was a cute idea :D
I am traveling w my 19 years old to Japan. We both attended this class and enjoyed it a great deal. The class was conducted in a private home. Love the comfortable home warm setting. We love it d much. We are planning to schedule a different class a the same teacher.
Well prepared and natural atmosphere for making japanese sweets. Instructor was very helpful with answering questions while keeping the flow of lesson going. The end result was very delicious! I have been looking for high sugar dessert replacements and I think learning about Japanese sweets is a step in the right direction! I also learned some culture and got to converse some about Japanese food!
The class was very informative and the sweets were great! She was very careful about gluten and explained reasons why gluten may be present in other recipes
This was a lovely private mochi making experience where my family and I felt welcome into Sakura‘s home. Not only did we make some delicious mochi, but we learned about significance of mochi in Japanese culture. Her home is located in a residential neighborhood, so it was one of the few activities we did on our trip where we were getting a glimpse of non-touristy life in Japan. The preparations for the mochi making were well done and thought out, and we felt comfortable, taken care of, and had fun.
This was an amazing and informative experience and I’d highly recommend it to anyone coming to Tokyo. We did this on my daughter’s birthday and Sakura made it extra special for her. It’s not only a fun experience but we learnt a lot about the related rituals and customs. Highly recommended!
Making mochi with Sakura san was a highlight of our 10 days in Japan. Kids and we had so much fun and joining in her home made it extra special.
