This tour was nothing but disappointment. First of all, the tour guide was over 30 minutes late and then the tour still didn't start for more than another 30 minutes aft her due to the company not having other tour guides available to pick up the dozen or so customers who were expecting tours with Vantours Angola. So, our guide ended up calling others and helping navigate transportation and guides for the others. Additionally, he did not have a sign or any kind of uniform showing that he was with this company as we were told he would. And the van did not have anything about this on it either. So, it wasn’t’ clear when he did show up that he was for our tour. And when we booked this tour on Viator it said: "This is a private tour/activity. Only your group will participate." But that wasn't true. Instead, our van had 2 different tour groups of 4 people each speaking 2 completely different languages, Portuguese and English, neither of whom spoke the other’s language! So, our guide spoke in both languages throughout our limited tour with him. Then, while this tour was supposed to last 5-6 hours and include 7 sites to visit, around 12:15 pm the four of us English-speaking customers were told that the four Portuguese-speaking customers had lunch included in their tour so he needed to end our tour because that was not included for us. When we pointed out that we had not yet been to the slavery museum (or 3 other of the 7 expected tour locations), he said it would take too long to drive there and get lunch for them. So, he took us back to the Cruise Terminal Port and dropped the 4 English-speaking customers there around 12:35 pm. So, our 5-6 hour tour with 7 stops ended up being 3 ½ hours and only three of the 7 listed tour sites. This is totally unsatisfactory and improper. I reached out to the tour company directly after our tour to inform them of this and requested at least a partial refund, but they have yet to respond. Since there were only 2 reviews but with a rating of 5.0/5 when we considered this tour, I was concerned this might not be good as written up but we’ve had many successful Viator tours over the years and believed that would be the case today. Unfortunately, that did not occur. And there were at least a handful of others on this tour and who also arrived at 8 am whose expectations were not met by Vantours Angola.
It was a wonderful tour We we are able to visit multiple interesting sites in Luanda. The tour guide, Vaz Jose, was really helpful and he provided a lot of interesting facts and historical information. I fully recommend it
Alice was an amazing guide! Super lively, polite and kind. She was always willing to help with anything and had great tips and recommendations beyond the tour.
