Penny Lane was of course made famous by The Beatles song of that name, released in 1967. John Lennon and Paul McCartney used to meet at Penny Lane to catch a bus into town. Their shared childhood experiences on the street inspired them to write the song, which was released as a double ‘A’ side with ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ and later featured on the US album ‘Magical Mystery Tour.’ Many Beatles fans make pilgrimage to Penny Lane in the South of the city, to see the street. It’s still a lively area, with independent businesses lining the street. There’s even a barber’s shop in the same spot referenced in the song.

“Almost certainly the most important meeting in popular music history” is how the first meeting of John Lennon and Paul McCartney has recently been described. The meeting took place at St Peter’s Church Hall on the evening of Saturday, 6th July 1957… Whilst waiting to play at the church dance that night, John Lennon and the other members of the Quarrymen Skiffle Group were introduced to the young Paul McCartney by a mutual friend.

Very Disappointed

Please know, there is absolutely no signage to help direct you once you arrive in Liverpool. There was no success reaching out to customer support. The tickets sent for the attractions could be scanned by the venue. Train tickets were not accessible. The day was long, expensive and stressful.

Nice but a lot of walking

The highlight to me was the MMT bus. The driver and the guide did an excellent job with their knowledge and kindness. The Beatles story was very info intensive. More than I had time for. From the train station to the dock, where everything was at, is about a 20 minute walk.

Operator response

Dear Warren_D Thank you for sharing your feedback and for joining the tour. We’re really pleased to hear that the MMT bus experience, along with the driver and guide, stood out for you and that you appreciated their knowledge and kindness. We also appreciate your honest comments regarding The Beatles Story and the amount of information provided. We understand that it can feel quite detailed within the available time, and your feedback is very helpful for us to consider how we can better pace the experience in the future. Thank you as well for noting the walking distance from the train station to the dock. Insights like this are valuable for future guests when planning their day. We’re grateful for your review and hope to welcome you on another tour again soon. Warm regards, Evan Evans Tours

Operator response

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you found the experience enjoyable overall. We are sorry if any aspect of the tour gave the impression that guests are unsupported during their visit. For clarity, our tours always include a professional guide or tour leader (and where applicable, on-site staff or audio guides) to ensure guests receive clear instructions, assistance, and information throughout the experience. However, once inside certain attractions, guests may have free time to explore at their own pace, which can sometimes feel more independent. Your comments are appreciated and will be reviewed by our team as we continue working to ensure expectations are clearly communicated before and during the tour. Thank you again for your feedback. Just do the magical mystery tour

There aren't any signs leading to Albert Dock when arriving at Liverpool Station. The walk to the dock is not leisure...it's 1.5 miles navigating crowded and uneven cobblestone streets. Transport to the dock would have been nice. Not enough time at the stops during the bus tour. We wanted to get back to London on an earlier train and tickets are not eligible for exchange. The only good thing was our tour guide Del and bus driver Steve. They were absolutely wonderful. Also dropped off in a different location and had to walk .5 miles back to train station. Also additional walking is required to get to the cavern. For that price there should have been transport to eveything.

Operator response

Dear DallesHoffman, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're truly sorry to hear that aspects of the day — particularly the walking distances and lack of transport between key locations — impacted your enjoyment of the tour. We understand how navigating unfamiliar areas on foot, especially over uneven ground, can be challenging and frustrating. Your feedback is extremely valuable, and we will share your comments with our team as we review ways to improve the overall experience, including clearer directions and more convenient transport options where possible. That said, we're delighted to hear that Del and Steve made a positive impression and helped brighten the day with their excellent service. We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to both of them. Thank you again for your feedback — it helps us to continually improve and better serve our guests. Warm regards, Evan Evans Tours
