Bait and Switch with Extremely Poor Communication

First, the positive. Our safari guides were great and responsive to what the group (9 people) wanted and were able to get us to see all but 2 of the big 5 (no leopard or cheetah) and many other animals in the shortened time we had with them. Now for the bad news, the Company completely mishandled the trip by changing the agreed upon method and location of travel between Cape Town and Hazy View (the location of where we stayed for the time we were there. The advertised (and what we paid for) trip was to fly from Cape Town to Kruger Mmumalanga Airport, then take a transport of about 2 hours to Hazy View. What happened though was, without any direct communication other than boarding passes the night before, we flew instead from Cape Town to Johannesburg, then a 6+hour van ride to our final destination. That not only was not what we agree to, but ended up cutting our 1st half day by about 1.5 hours. We realized that the plan was to send us back the same way. The problem was, especially for me, that I had booked my flights back to the U.S. based on the flight times of the original flight plan as advertised and if we had done that, I would have missed my flight. Plus, again, sitting in a van for 6+ hours versus 2 plus a flight was not ideal. Prior to our return we all tried contacting the office of the Tour Company who was completely nonresponsive to me, but did eventually communicate with a couple of other people in the group of 9 (a group of 3, 2 groups of 2, and 2 solos). I never received any communication about the plan and was stressing about whether I needed to change my flight plans, which ruined what was left of my vacation. Because of pressure from several in the group, they did finally decide to deliver the agreed upon return flights from Kruger airport to Cape Town, but they sent my personal information and ticket confirmation, etc., to one of the other in the group who was a complete stranger to me, instead of to me. Completely unacceptable. The day of return there was confusion about when and where we would be picked up and taken to airport and our half day safari tour that day turned into 2 hours of "speed" safari and my 2 friends I had gone with were put in a different jeep that day (they had also been put in a different hotel without prior notice. So stressful. All of us would have understood if they had, prior to the trip, told us that because of the increase in jet fuel and higher ticket prices that they would have to charge a surcharge, or we could cancel (I suspect the change was due to the increased costs to them, but they never shared their reason.) Unfortunately that didn't happen and despite the guides being wonderful and the hotel I stayed at Sanbonani, being nice, I can't recommend this tour operator.

Great experience!

Service provided by the people from Mojo tours was very good. Safari guides are very knowledgeable and attentive. Our driver Isaac was great! He went over his duties helping us to resolve unexpected issues with the hotel.

Well organized in a great national park

Everything worked out well from the pick up to the return to the hotel. Communication with the organizer was easy and straightforward via Whatsapp. Kruger National Park is great and certainly worth a visit (even if it is not my favorite in Africa). With the professional and sympathetic driver/ranger/guide we saw all the "Big Five" and much more on just 3 game drives. If your name, like mine, contains an unusual letter, please always check carefully and insist that the name is listed exactly as indicated on the passport. My small problems at the park entrance, in the accommodation and on the return flight could be solved on site. Otherwise I can absolutely recommend Africa Moja.

Correct experience, but opaque price

I booked a 3 day tour to Kruger Park with Africa Moja Tours for 30,000 ZAR. If the organization on site was correct (competent guides, simple but comfortable lodge, transfers without problems), the price remains inexplicable: after request, the agency refused to provide a detailed statement, citing a "confidential pricing structure". Considering that flights, standard lodge (ZAR 1600/night) and park fees accounted for a third of the amount, where did the difference go? Without transparency, difficult to recommend, despite the quality of service on the ground.

Operator response

Hello, Thank you for your feedback and for travelling with Africa Moja Tours & Safaris. We are pleased to hear that you were satisfied with the on-ground experience, including the guides, lodge, and overall organisation. Delivering a smooth and memorable safari is always our top priority. Regarding pricing, safari packages involve a wide range of operational costs beyond accommodation, flights, and park fees. These include professional guide services, driver and staff salaries, vehicle purchase and maintenance, fuel, permits, logistics coordination, insurance, administration, and 24/7 support throughout your journey. Pricing is therefore structured as a complete service package rather than a simple breakdown of individual items. While we understand your request for a detailed cost structure, certain elements of our pricing remain confidential as part of our business model. However, we would like to assure you that Africa Moja Tours delivered all services as outlined in your itinerary and upheld the standards promised. We truly appreciate your feedback and your support, and we hope to welcome you again for another African adventure.

From Kruger to Pilanesberg

Had planned a 4D trip to Kruger but because of the flood the park was closed, so they moved me to Pilanesberg to be able to do a Safari nonetheless! Rudzani drived me all the way from Kruger to Pilanesberg and I am so glad he was mu driver. Amazing person, would definitely do another full day car ride with him! :')

Punctual and Friendly

This tour takes care of all of the logistics but be aware it is fast paced. We were too tired to do the last Safari so we did just the first 2. It was great tho. We saw 4 of the big 5 minus rhino. Ben our driver from and to jnb was totally amazing. He also made a stop on the way back where we could eat and got to see RHINOS. So we did end up seeing the last of the big 5 that we missed at Kruger. The safari drivers were also nice and want to ensure u see all the animals u came to see. I must say tho the safari itself can feel long. The 2nd day was over 8hrs. You will see plenty of animals. But for families traveling with young children u might want to opt for a safari in cape.

Very good tour. This has been well past my expectations. Everything has been done in a very professional manner. From setting up my flight. To my transportation to the hotel. To the safari itself.
