The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgable and the equipment was excellent. Everyone in the family had a truly memorable experience.
Great experience - at the time of your tour start time you'll need to go to the 'Excursion Hub' at the touristy 'Adventure Hub' to free shuttle into Hoonah where Fairweather Kayaks operated our kayak tour. They had a small boat following our kayaks taking photos of our experience, and had real locals' knowledge of where various animals might be. They went to different places from the other 'straight from the cruise ship' tours - don't hesitate to book this one instead!
An excellent experience with a professional and friendly team. They shared their local knowledge, kayaking expertise, and passion for nature. Quality kit and instruction. They know where to go to find the local wildlife too.
We had a wonderful time. The instructor was very clear and helpful. He encouraged us along the way and shared information about the locals. We saw a momma bear and her cubs, eagles, and a pod of whales in the distance. It was just so peaceful and beautiful. I would definitely do it again and with Cody and his crew. They also took pictures of us along the way for our memories. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable experience!
Guides were awesome and it’s a great area to kayak. Saw bears and other cool stuff. My 12 year old did great with it.
Beautiful scenery, tour was very well put together, staff were knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Would highly recommend.
Incredible! Beautiful scenery. We saw a few whale spouts from far away, nothing close, but we did get to see a Momma Brown Bear and her two cubs from really close (but a safe distance!). Spotted lots of eagles too. Cody and his team took great care of us and also taught us a lot about the local area and culture. We paddled a lot, so this is not for someone who wants to sit in a kayak and go nowhere (this is what we saw the cruise excursion kayak trips doing!). Highly recommend Fairweather Kayaks.
No need to worry about wet feet or spare clothes. They haul you into the water, and even provided snacks 2/3 of the way through. We saw 2 bears on the shore, several bald eagles. Pretty calm part of the body of water, paddled under a few bridges. All kayaks were tandem to be faster.
The tour was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions however we found out from staff at an adjacent attraction. No communication received from Viator or the the tour company
This tour was not canceled this day. The customer didnt contact my business for cancelation this day or days after the tour. We waited for them at the pick up area to go into town. My driver and myself called them. The phone service in town could be bad when the ship comes into town. Calls most of the time don't go through. Thats why we stress study your instructions on how to find us. The tour offered through the ship and the main port was canceled. Different business and different tour entirely. None of the local tours in town would say that my kayak tour was cancelled like that was mentioned. The local tours in town dont communicate like that. They would say contact the owner of the business to verify. They do not speak for other business. I would have called and sent an email out if we did cancel. My guess is this group went to the kayak center instead of the excursion hub where we pick up our clients to drive into town. The other kayak tour offered through the ship at the kayak center did cancel that day due to weather. There route is different from ours. We did not cancel and not once did I receive a call or email from this client after the tour was done on June 16th. It is now June 24th of this review.
I had an amazing time on this tour! I was traveling solo and didn’t have much kayaking experience, and I felt comfortable. The views were incredible, and we even saw a mama bear and her cubs while kayaking. Such a memorable experience—I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hoonah! :)
