I booked with T4W to see Sete Cidades, Lagoa do Fogo and Furnas across three days, and it was easily the best money spent. The team employs very knowledgeable and highly passionate guides with excellent English-speaking skills, and by booking a private tour we got to adjust our itinerary based on our personal interests and what the weather allowed for. We were fortunate to have sunny weather on our half-day trip in the region around Lagoa do Fogo, and were treated to some truly spectacular views. Our day began with a detour to Ribeira Grande, the largest city outside of Ponta Delgada. Our guide discussed local traditions, like how farmers will relocate cows with the change of season in order to grow specific types of crops. We also saw a breathtaking view of the coast, which were part cliffs, part beach and part city. In contrast to Sete Cidades the ride to the top of Lagoa do Fogo is fairly quick. Our guide drove us to the top peak, which by the looks of it other travelers had to hike to reach. The view was absolutely incredible, not only because of how grand the lake looks nestled in the volcanic crater, but also because that specific viewpoint allowed us to see both the northern and southern shores of Sao Miguel. We also spent an hour soaking in the hot springs located at the "Centro de Interpretação Ambiental da Caldeira Velha". Interestingly, there are two sets of springs with warm/hot water, and one that is full of cold water located at the basin of a small waterfall. I personally didn't care for the cold water in June, but it makes sense to take advantage of it during the warmer months of summer. The area also includes a closed off section where you can see the water boiling from the all activity underneath - a very neat sight!
It is not worth the money.. You may not see the logoa du Fogo if it’s foggy. The rest of the stops are 5 min each at most and the only Thing worth it is the hot springs which you have to pay extra for. Essentially you are paying $73 cad per person to get a ride to the hot springs. A taxi would be cheaper. It’s not even an exciting off road jeep.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are genuinely sorry that the experience did not meet your expectations. The Azores are known for rapidly changing weather conditions, and unfortunately Lagoa do Fogo can occasionally be affected by fog. While we cannot control nature, our commitment is always to ensure guests have the best possible experience with the conditions available — our philosophy has always been “Whatever the Weather”. On the day of your tour, our professional guide adapted the experience and explored alternative locations with better conditions rather than shortening the activity or returning early. Additional scenic areas outside the standard route were included so that your time on the island could still be enjoyed to the fullest. Regarding the off-road experience, we respectfully feel it is important to clarify that the tour included terrain and access areas that standard rental vehicles would neither legally nor safely reach, including steep road , and gravel roads or drit road and also a restricted area accessed only by licensed tourism operators (Salto do Cabrito). The experience also included exploring areas beyond the original itinerary to compensate for weather limitations. Our Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles are specifically selected for safety, comfort and genuine off-road capability, offering an experience that combines adventure with professional guiding and local knowledge — something fundamentally different from simply taking a taxi from one point to another. We would also like to clarify that Caldeira Velha entrance tickets are separate from the tour service itself. Finally, we would highlight that throughout the activity our guide remained available, engaged and fully committed to providing the best experience possible, and no concerns were raised during the tour itself. We fully respect that travel experiences can be subjective and we sincerely regret that this one did not match your expectations. We remain proud of our guides, our vehicles and our team’s dedication to ensuring every guest enjoys the Azores — whatever the weather.
We had an incredible experience from start to finish. We arrived via cruise, and he was already waiting inside the terminal holding a sign with my name, which made the pickup seamless and stress-free. From that moment on, everything felt easy and well-organized. What really stood out was how the tour didn’t feel scripted or generic. Instead of a typical guide, it felt like being shown around by a knowledgeable friend who genuinely loves his island. He shared insights, stories, and details that made the experience feel personal and engaging. We especially appreciated how flexible and thoughtful he was throughout the day. He adjusted the itinerary on the fly to avoid the fog and take us to the best viewpoints, which made a huge difference. It never felt rushed, and it was clear he cared about making sure we had the best possible experience. Overall, this was one of the highlights of our trip, and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a more personalized and memorable tour.
We had an excellent day exploring the island. Our guide was amazing!! The weather wasn’t the best but we made the best of it!! Loved this tour!!
Outstanding day. We had an amazing trip thru Sao Miguel. Our guide was equally outstanding, very informative and went out of his way to show us things we wanted to see. Highly recommmended.

Our guide was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and made the trip very enjoyable. The views were amazing and the weather cooperated. I felt like we were able to see a lot in the half day tour. Highly recommend.
This was our best tour (out of several we booked for a 2-week vacation). Delfim was the absolute best! So knowledgeable and personable. He showed us all the main sites and provided so much detail that was really appreciated.
