Great way to start your trip.

We really enjoyed this walking food tour and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Ponta Delgada. The tour offers a nice balance of history, sightseeing, and local cuisine. There’s a fair amount of walking, but nothing strenuous, and it gives you a great feel for the city while introducing you to many of the foods and specialties you should try while you’re there. The food portions were generous, and we appreciated being able to sample so many local favorites without having to research them ourselves. I think this tour is especially worthwhile if you’re only in Ponta Delgada for the day, if it’s your first stop after arriving on São Miguel, or if you’re planning to spend several days in the city and want a great introduction to the area. For my husband and me, it was the very first thing we did after landing before heading to our bed and breakfast, and it was a wonderful way to begin our vacation. A special thank you to our guide, Marco, who did a fantastic job leading our group. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly well organized, especially considering the size of our group. More than anything, you could tell he genuinely enjoys sharing his passion for Azorean culture, history, and food, and that enthusiasm made the experience even more enjoyable. While the information was naturally well structured, it never felt impersonal—Marco was engaging, welcoming, and happy to answer questions throughout the tour. Our group happened to be fairly large, so navigating some of the stops took a little extra coordination. I imagine a smaller group would make the experience even more enjoyable, but despite the size, Marco kept everything running smoothly and did an excellent job keeping everyone together. Overall, this was a fantastic introduction to Ponta Delgada and the local food scene, and we’re very glad we chose to start our Azores trip this way.

The best fed 4 hour walk of my life

Ishaja and Lana were amazing. They led us to several great dining establishments for locals and tourists and guided us to trying what they were best at making, we also got some context as to how these dishes were important to the people of Sao Miguel. 10/10 would recommend

Anniversary Food Tour Experience

My wife and I did this tour for our Wedding Anniversary and we loved it! Marco was our tour guide and he provided plenty of information that left us with barely any questions! If we had questions, he had answers as well. 10/10 experience, highly recommended!

Hungry Whales fills you with food and knowledge!

Marco was an unbelievable Guide for this Walking Food Tour! He did a tremendous job of showing us around the town of Ponta Delgada, including many historical and modern facts of life on the island. The choices of food he showed us were very local, and all very tasty. His explanations of the local produce at the Farmer's Market was awesome too! When you are exploring a new place, one of the best excursions to book on your first couple of days is a walking food tour so that you can immerse yourself in the local culture and get tips on where to go and what to do the rest of your trip! Would highly recommend Marco and Hungry Whales Tours to anyone visiting Sao Miguel, Azores!
