Half Day Akumal Beach Swim and Snorkel with Turtles Experience

It was pretty good. I think the description could have been more accurate; as we booked considering comparisons with other services which didn't turn out to be the case. This region of Mexico is experiencing a seaweed issue, so the water was cloudy and difficult to see things (not their fault), and we did see multiple turtles and a ray or 2. And a few fish. (Same as any tour- a mass of 15ish people crowding together any time someone says turtle- if you want a better experience book something private.) What could use improvement- the times displayed on Trip Advisor were 7am-12noon. We were looking for turtles only, no cenote combo. Once booked we got a WhatAp message that we would be picked up at 8:10 and would return around 2pm. Adjustment; Ok. Once in the van and almost there (sort of expected some convo from the guide prior to the last five minutes) the guide turned around and we got the touristy spiel, "your part of my family today" talk, which I heard from other guides once we were in the water, realizing that was everyone's skit. That's when we also realized that half the people in our group were doing the cenote thing, so after the first 45 minutes or so of snorkeling, they would leave us and we would all meet up 2 hours later. The beach is ok and there are really no great shops, so (again, given seaweed) we just sat and waited for 2 hours. I had thought maybe we could continue to snorkel and maybe see turtles (brought our own masks) but we were not allowed in that area. They just need to be a little clearer in the description. It was probably worth the price for the ride there and snorkel rental alone. Just not an experience I would rave about and recommend as standout against all the other turtle snorkel experiences.

Lush half day experience, with great communication throughout. The guides were all so friendly on this trip and were so happy to help you at any point . Saw some beautiful turtles grazing away was given nice clean equipment on the day . Afterwards we got some free time in tulum which we personally loved as we found the cutest little beach bar about a 2 minute walk away from the beach that served the best coconut shrimp tacos and pina coladas! Was one of the highlight meals of our trip ( I think it was called turtle cafe)

Wonderful walk! Our guide, Israel Canhas was phenomenal! Super didactic, patient, technical and focused. Serious and concentrated in the group. Tired diving, but an unparalleled experience! Let's swim right...go and go..rs. It requires a minimum of physical preparation, but the team always helps those who do not know how to swim or actually lose their strength or sense of location in the sea. After the dive, a 2h time to enjoy the beach of Tulum and Akumal. Beautiful place! Extend a canga under one of the coconut trees, contemplate the view and do several dives in a sea that looks like a pool. Worth a lot!

Guide was great. Paid for 2 hour trip and only got 1 hour. Paid guide for pictures and never received them.

Ivan was an awesome and informative tour guide. We saw several different turtles, sting rays, and multiple different kinds of fish while snorkeling. The cenote we visited was incredible. There were multiple different kinds of cave formations and it was truly an entire sensory experience as you float through the cave in the dark with flashlights. I would highly recommend!

Oto was super friendly and a great guide! Would definitely book with this company again. A little crowded when you see a turtle but to be expected, still worth it and would do it again!

Booked a 4 hour sea turtle snorkeling excursion, with 2 hour beach time in Akumel. Within just a few minutes I received a text from Raul with the time they would arrive to pick us up. The driver was prompt and very friendly. We were transferred to another van for our trip and paired with Jar & Ceasar. They were both amazing!! Jar is such a sweet and genuine person who is so knowledgeable. She radiates warmth! Ceasar was super kind and very helpful as well. We were able to see 4 turtles, a stingray, a gorgeous reef and my husband saw a really large fish! This experience is something we will never forget!! Jar, Ceasar and the sweet gentleman who took photos and videos with the go pro, and Kevin the other water guide, really made this such a memorable experience of a lifetime!!! We couldn’t have asked for a better team! Akumel was stunningly beautiful, and we loved our time on the beach! There is a great little Sea Turtle Cafe and some small souvenir shops that we really enjoyed! This excursion is a must!!

Disappointment is the first thought I have of the overall experience.. with previous reviews I had anticipated a educational as well as exciting encounter with the turtles..,there was NO information given about the turtles, their habitat, numbers surviving , nesting environment…why they were even in Akumal Bay, basically nothing at all..we were given snorkeling equipment led to the area spent our time with a guide who shared no information and was tied up taking care of insecure swimmers delivered the equipment back and sat in the sand for the remaining time.. Because we were not told ahead of time that there were cafes to secure drinks and food right in the beach, we had not brought additional funds.. I had specifically asked about other fish to view in The area and was told there were over 150 varieties… we saw NO fish at all and we had to turn in our snorkeling equipment anyway.. Also the 4 hour trip from pickup to return turned into and 8 hour trip with 4 hours sitting in the van waiting to pick up others that weren’t in our group at a cenote which wasn’t even included with our tour.. This tour was certainly not worth the cost nor the time involved.. I will say that our initial guide, Jar, and the drivers were very friendly and apologetic we certainly do not blame them for this wasted day.
