Ghosts of Charleston Walking Tour + Unitarian Church Graveyard

Description
Come walk with us on The Ghosts of Charleston walking tour, leaving nightly from Buxton Books, Charleston’s independent bookstore located at 160 King Street. Our licensed guides are expert storytellers who lead you through centuries old alleys and paths while sharing stories and history from Julian Buxton’s best-selling book, The Ghosts of Charleston. The true tales of intrigue, tragedy, and lost love reveal a rich underside of Charleston’s character that isn’t apparent during the day. The highlight of your tour is our exclusive nighttime access to the 18th century Unitarian Church Graveyard, where you will experience something magical. The Ghosts of Charleston is Buxton Books’ signature and most popular book-based walking tour -- a favorite of visitors and locals for over 27 years. *Travelers may select either a 1-hour Graveyard Only Tour or a 1.5-hour full Ghosts of Charleston tour which includes Unitarian Graveyard and tour of haunted downtown Charleston.

Itinerary
During our 90 minute walking ghost tour, our City of Charleston licensed tour guides recount hauntings and supernatural events from our best-selling book The Ghosts of Charleston. We are fortunate to have many repeat guests, and lots of tales to share, so we switch things up nightly by varying ghosts stories on every tour. There is no experience like walking enchanted Charleston at night, listening to our supernatural stories, and encountering what you will see and hear in the Unitarian Church Graveyard.
The highlight of Tour Charleston's Ghosts of Charleston Tour is entering the lush, spellbinding Unitarian Church Graveyard built in 1772. Real time hauntings occur only a handful of times a year. However, since 1996, when we started what is now Charleston's oldest ghost tour, spirits in the Unitarian Church Graveyard have reached out to many people on our tour in visual, tactile and auditory ways.
Start your tour at Buxton Books, and stop in either before or after your tour to purchase a copy of the The Ghosts of Charleston, the book this ghost tour is based off of.

Liz was an amazing story teller, very knowledgeable on Charleston as her family have lived there for generations. We learned a lot as first time visitors. Thank you so much Liz ☺️
We have done many gave yard / haunted tours, this guide was a poor storyteller which left us uninterested . Although I only saw 2 or 3 on line ? there must be more a dozen or so walking ghost / grave tours in Charleston because we dodged at least 6 on this night. As we competed with other groups I felt It forced our guide to take us to the out of the way or secondary locations . I found myself listening to other guides as we passed them.
Simon was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We had a fantastic time! We loved the graveyard in particular.
We had a great time, and Jerry was an excellent storyteller!
Jerry was very knowledgeable about not only the history of Charleston, but how this history has been influenced by some ghostly nuance.
Simon was an excellent guide and story teller. He was very well versed in the history of the city and the areas we visited. He added some personal stories as well. If you like learning the lesser known hidden gems of local history and the tragic tales of some lost loves this tour is for you!
The content for this tour relied on the guide sharing digital photos from past tour goers who claim to see supernatural elements, and our guide was at times hard to understand and did not seem to connect with the audience in any way. Not a single person asked a question on our entire 90 minute tour, which makes me think other people may have thought similarly.
Jerry was very knowledgeable about the history and had good stories to tell. Started off a little slow but once we actually got started and going everyone was well engaged and interested.
Jake was a great guide telling stories with passion. The tour was perfect length. The cemetery was old and spooky. Tour ended at dusk which was perfect.
Jerry was awesome! Without his knowledge of Charleston and interesting ghost narratives, the tour would not have been the same. Truly a must while enjoying the old city.
