Thank you, Harlan!

There was a large family consisting of one mom and 6 children ranging from high school to lower elementary school. They arrived late which delayed our tour. During the tour, they kept interrupting and distracting the tour guide by talking amongst themselves, questing the legitimacy of his sources, discussing whatever was on their phones, and trying to prank each other. When they left the tour early, the vibe was calmer and more engaging. But, this was near the end of the tour. I commend the tour guide, Harlan, for keeping his composure and redirecting attention back to the tour. His knowledge of history was on point with great description. My daughter and I loved how expressive and interactive he was when relaying information.

unfortunately this was...

unfortunately this was not a fun tour for my group. our tour guide was a nice man but he wasn’t enthusiastic or a good story teller. the tour was very dull and boring. i’ve been on many tours like this in boston in Salem and this is the first time I’ve ever left a tour early. disappointing.

Lacking on the ghost stories and also the fun

I hate being critical but feel I need to give an honest review. If I could sum up this tour in just a few words, it would be "Long and Boring". I initially chose this tour because I was with my family of all ages - a senior (late 70s), my daughter (8), and my two teenage sons (13 and 14). The tour's website promised that this tour would be good for all ages. What it should have said was that it wasn't fun for any age. It was 32 minutes (I clocked this) into the tour before we even heard our first ghost story! Let me say that I LOVE history and love getting an immersive experience. The problem with this tour/ guide was that he just didn't engage us. It felt like listening to a lecture from the most boring professor you ever had. He certainly didn't read the facial expressions or mannerisms of his tour guests, which would have told him when to move on to another subject. Or at least move physically - he had us standing around him for 30 minutes in the Common without any place to sit. He never even noticed that an elderly person might need to sit down, or that families with younger children who had been walking around all day in Boston might need to rest. Heck, I was just tired of standing there in the semi-dark trying to pretend he was interesting. He also didn't even attempt to make it spooky. With all of the rich history in Boston, it is such a shame that this was not a fun event, as it could (and should) have been great. Some of the people on our tour even left before the tour was over, they couldn't bear it any longer. Meanwhile, towards the end of our tour, we encountered the trolley ghost tour (different company). Everyone on the trolley was laughing and smiling; their guide was telling jokes and actively engaging the guests. We all looked longingly at the trolley, and one of the other tour participants whispered, " we should have been on that one". Enough said.

Tour Guide Had No Contol Over A Group Of Girls constantly Interrupting

Before the tour began, the guide asked the group to hold their questions until he was done telling a specific story about an event/sighting. There was a group of about 10 young (less than 10 years old) girls, accompanied by an adult woman, who kept interrupting the guide as he spoke. He only asked once , again, if they would please wait until he was finished. Well they didn't, nor did their adult supervisors control them. He should have asked the adult to please control the girls' questions. He didn't. It became so annoying that we left before the tour was finished. It was a tour that I was looking forward to. I will NOT recommend this tour to others who may be interested in taking it.
