Trieste - worth a trip

A very beautiful city, you can reach most places on foot. The hop on bus ride was good and interesting. The public bus to Miramar also worked well, even if it was a bit full. The gardens and views in Miramar are simply beautiful.

A wonderful city! Great historic buildings! Shopping paradise! Great culinary options

Trieste is located between Slovenia, Croatia and Italy! Many influences from all these countries, is right on the sea! Large squares with unique historic buildings! The city invites you to stroll! You have the feeling here no hassle comes up! Special experience the Miramar Castle directly on the sea with a unique park! That alone is worth a trip!

Trieste or Vienna

The buildings of the old town are very reminiscent of those in Vienna, residential buildings and palaces. My fascination: ground level - Italian, upper floors - Viennese. The churches, canals and the nearby sea tell you that you are in Italy. The deep blue sea is right on the shore next to the main square and 11m deep - unbelievable for me as a Viennese.

Excellent tour of a surprisingly elegant and appealing city

So we planned a stop in Trieste on our way from Venice to Split, Croatia. We knew a little. The city was the home of Chef Lydia Bastianich and many national flags flew there over the centuries. It turned to be a wonderful surprise. We found beautiful architecture, wide streets, reasonable prices, friendly people and even more complex history than we had imagined. Helping us sort through the centuries of politics, wars, occupations and developmnets was our guide Demian Sem. He was wonderful. Demien is a Slovenian (next door to Trieste) and explained how Slovenia, Venice, Italy, the Hapsburgs, Ottomans, Romans, Italian Fascists, NAZI's, WWII and others figured in the city's history. Demien punctuated his narrative with personal anecdotes and the local color you can only see with a native. He explained the more interesting architecture, buildings, their significance and their role in the city's history, economy and culture. He also has a great sense of humor and managed to entertain us on a personal level as well. We like to use local guides, especially on 1st visits. Damien not only met our expectations, he exceeded them on every criteria. If you book a local tour ask for Demian Sem. You will benefit from his extensive knowledge and interestig delivery.

Walkabout in Real Italy

Nowhere before did I feel the sense of real Italy than in the back streets of Trieste - small lovely restaurants, amazingly friendly people and old cobblestone streets made it a day to remember.
