This is definitely a tour for the adventurous soul. Aloys is prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. You should be aware of, and comfortable with, his guiding you around Dar-es-Salaam on public transport. This should not be confused with public transport in cities like NYC, London or Paris. These are mini buses that are often (very) crowded, hot and move erratically through traffic - and tuktuks (3 wheeled mini carts). It is a good amount of chaos. I *loved* (loved!) seeing the city this way but if you are looking for something more private and sedate, you may not. I recommend demure clothing out of respect for the local population and for your safety. As a woman traveling alone with him for a really long day, I felt very safe. We saw many, but not all, of the stops listed in the tour package (mostly due to time spent dealing with the buses). We walked through a few large markets, he was happy to stop at my request for brief shopping or conversations. He was an excellent guide at the national museum and translated for any local guides at our stops whose English was not vast. If you like a fly-by-night adventure, Aloys will make it happen for you.
Many thanks for your comments for the tour of Dar es Salaam. I hope that your comments is helpful and next travellers will use it to plan a trip to Dar es Salaam. GOD Bless you! Aloys
It was very nice friendly people enjoyed the trip throughout. The tour guide was on time.took personal care.
Thank you so much for the tour comments of Dar es Salaam City Walking tour. Thank you too for your kind and good heart. I learned many things from you that I wouldn't knew before during a tour. GOD Bless you and I wish you Long live. Aloys Malekela (Tour Guide, Dar es Salaam City)
Aloys was an excellent guide. He showed up on time to greet me at my hotel and was pleasant to navigate the city with. Even though it was a walking tour, there were moments when we were able to catch the public bus and other transportation for farther destinations, which was a nice relief and added bonus experience of local life in the city. Aloys was very knowledgeable about the city and made sure that I was safe and comfortable the whole time. We did stop at a nice local restaurant to eat lunch. I am not sure if the expectation was for me to cover the cost of both of our lunches, but the waitress put both of our meals on one bill and gave it to me to pay. Overall, I would recommend this tour to others in the future.
Thank you so much Zoe for the highly encouraged review for the tour we have done in Dar es Salaam City with you. Thank you too for the lunch you have paid for me, you have showed me a good heart. For we Africans if a guest paid for your lunch or dinner we consider that she/he is a friendly and extra ordinary guest and you are supposed to take care of her. My good friend, I also take this opportunity to welcome you again in Dar es Salaam. I believe that you are now a good Ambassador of the City. GOD of Heaven Bless you and your parents in USA. I wish you a success in your life. I also learnt from you about your politeness. I also wish you long live! See you again if GOD Wishes Aloys Tour Guide Dar es Salaam TANZANIA.
Our tour guide Aloys Malekela was the main reason we enjoyed our city tour. From the moment he came to pick us up in the morning up until he dropped us back, he was extremely kind and accommodating to our every need. He is so knowledgeable and knows the city and history like the back of his hand. We had a blast and a day we will never forget. We learned so much about Dar and made great use of our day. I recommend this city tour, especially if he’s your tour guide :)
Thank you so much Lydia and your sister for the kind and highly encouraged review you posted for the walking tour of Dar es Salaam. I also thank you for your time as we made a tour like a 1 family and not the guide and tourists. Your words/ comments are stronger enough to prove that I am dedicated to treat my guests under fair basis. My prayers to you. I wish you 2 long live and our Lord GOD Bless you my sisters! Thank you again and again! Aloys
Dar es Salaam is totally dispensable. I don’t know if it’s because of covid but in 3 hours of walking we’ve only seen 4 tourists... it’s been a constant siege, and we’re dressed quite discreetly, with no camera and nothing. In the ferry area I almost got run over so we could get away from 3 tour vendors. In Zanzibar you were harassed but the thing here has no name... it has nothing to do with Morocco, any Asian city or even Nairobi!
I am sorry to say that I haven't done any business with the complaint traveler. I request TRIPADVISOR to trace a traveler why they have entered into my page and write this comments. I think these travelers went wrong. But to be honest I will contact TripAdvisor to check their records with the traveler and detect who offered them the service. TripAdvisor should check again and ask a traveler to comment on a specific tour he bought to a proper Guide but on my personal page. Aloys
I really recommend the walking tour in Daressalam with Aloys. By walking and using public transport, you get in touch with the local people and the reality of the city a lot better than by going by car. Aloys is very friendly and was looking after me very well the whole time so that I never felt unsafe. He also assisted me when I was trying to buy a local football jersey on the busy market. He even picked me up very far outside of the city and took care of me on my way back there by accompanying me.
Hi my friend Alexander, It was a great day to meet you and for the tour we have done. Thank you so much for the highly encouraged comments. Hope to see you again in Dar es Salaam City! GOD Bless you. Thanks Aloys (Tour Guide) Dar es Salaam City TANZANIA.
This is my second tour with Mr. Aloys! I took a taxi and met up with him in Bagamoyo. It’s about 2 hours taxi ride north from Dar. It’s an amazing place to visit for a day and to get away from the busy city life in Dar Es Salaam. Bagamoyo has super interesting history that dates back centuries and many archeological sites to visit. If you are interested in the East African slave trade history this place is a must visit for the historical value. Highly recommended. A must visit!
Aloys guided us very well through the city. Since we landed too late, he gave us time to douche. Was very flexible and took full account of our wishes (no museum visits).

It was such a pleasure for me to find this tour! It was super interesting. From riding the local bus to the market of Kariakoo, and the fish market...among many other things that Mr. Aloys shown me. It was an eye opening experience for me to see how the local people live their everyday life in Dar Es Salaam. My guide Mr. Aloys is so kind, nice and very informative about the history of the city. I am a solo female traveler and didn’t feel unsafe when I am accompanied to walk around with Mr Aloys. I am so glad I found this interesting local tour, it’s definitely a great off the beaten path experience and I am glad I didn’t miss it!! Five star!
