Hard topic but Sam made it a meaningful experience. He was knowledgeable about the topic and adjusted for the extreme heat. He kept track of our group of 19 and made sure we knew the details of the camp.
Excellent tour and experience booked through Viator. James was an awesome and extremely knowledgeable historian/tour guide. He has a passion for the history of the time and Dachau. Meeting spot is easy- traffic getting there is not. We planned 30 min early and was exactly there at 9:00 but it was a stressful uber ride. Munich is a busy city and lots of events happening. There is a rush hour. Once on the tour- James skillfully navigated the group through a bus and a train. Thank you James!
Chances are very good you know the history of Nazi Germany and the horrors of the concentration camps. From school. Books. Websites. Even movies. But if you haven’t experienced an in-person visit to a camp, you don’t truly know. This was not only my first time at Dachau, but my first time at any of the Nazi concentration camps. I weeped walking through the gate and, days later, I have carried feelings with me. Each person’s reaction will obviously be uniquely theirs, but you will be changed by this experience. Do this. Please. For the victims. For history. For your own community, your own family, and for yourself and your own place in our world.
James our tour guide led our small group of 15 through Dachau. He was very knowledgeable and passionate explaining the horrific Dachau concentration camp. The memorial is setup with information & photos throughout. We appreciated the quiet and solemn atmosphere. We were relieved to discover there were many school groups. The world must always learn about this history and never forget.
Our host James was fantastic; very knowledgeable and passionate about the history, the stories and the facts about Dachau. He paid great respect to the victims and brought history to life. The tour was well paced, a perfect amount of time spent delving into the history and touring the facilities. We were fortunate that a participant was the son of a prisoner and James gave him some time to tell his personal story. It was a great experience, thanks James!
Oh my goodness!!!!!! James was fantastic!!!! He was full of information about Dachau!!! He patiently answered all of our questions!! There were some young teenagers laughing and carrying on…he said ‘excuse me’…then he went to the giggling teenage boys and told them to BE QUIET!!! And BE RESPECTFUL!!!! We were soo impressed that he stopped our tour to stop silly teenagers (that didn’t understand the seriousness of the holocaust). He apologized to us for interrupting our tour. BUT NO APLOGY was expected, he earned our respect 109%!! Soo impressed and THANKFUL for James! Although the tour was very sad, he made it tolerable. I just can’t wrap my head around how people can turn on a particular religious group. I hope we can take away from this….how easily people can be swayed 100% recommend thu tour…and hopefully you’ll get James!!
James was great, knew a lot about the topic. Highly recommend.
Prepare for an informative and emotional day. Wear sneakers and sun protection. Bring water. Probably not best for young children- especially the video. James did an excellent job keeping the group together and on pace. At first we hoped to spend more time reading and looking at photos but now realize we would have run out of time if he had not kept us moving. We thank him for
My family of 5 (3 young adults) took this tour with James. The meeting spot and travel by train and bus to Dachau was easy and stress-free. James gave us some historical background on the way out there and then led us through the camp. He kept it interesting and appropriately somber. I have some mobility issues and he was very helpful with that. Highly recommend!
We had a great tour of Dachau with James yesterday. We learned so much history and detail, had enough time to see everything we wanted to see, and he even kept our group dry on a rainy day. A great experience from start to finish. It was wonderful not to worry about the logistics of how to get there and to be able to focus on the experience.
