Chichen Itza, Cenote and Valladolid Small Group Day Trip

Description
Recently selected as one of the New World Wonders, Chichen Itza is without a doubt one of the most spectacular and important archeological sites of the Yucatan peninsula and Mesoamerica. The Maya-Toltec style; which can be appreciated in Chichen Itza is the result of the cultural exchange between the different cultures of Mesoamerica. The excellent restoration of this ancient city makes it an absolute “must-see” destination for any visitor to the Yucatan peninsula interested in history and culture. After visiting Chichen Itza we cool off in an impressive cenote (flooded cave) where nature and mysticism will bring you to a whole new dimension. Valladolid is a city where past and present come together to delight us with astounding sights of beautifully colored colonial architecture and tastes of an incredibly rich gastronomy. A visit to the main square of the town will absorb you in the peace and tranquility of its people while you learn about the local customs.

Avoid this company!! The tour was moved by 2 days with only a few hours' notice and without any choice. As if that weren't enough, the guide was in English, when I had expressly requested Italian. The driver was very slow, the guide was not friendly, and during the trip (which lasted a very long time because of the slowness) they talked to each other the whole time. Terrible experience! The worst of my vacation in Mexico!
Ley did a stellar job of taking us to the Mayan pyramids, the gorgeous cenote, and the beautiful town of Valladolid.
Great experience with our guide Le. Highly recommend to any Americans visiting Mexico. Super hospitable. Very knowledgeable. Incredibly friendly.
Visiting Chichén Itzá and Tulum as a private group was an extraordinary experience and one of the highlights of my trip to Mexico. Exploring two of the country’s most iconic archaeological sites in a personalized setting made the journey both enriching and unforgettable. Our private guide was exceptionally knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights into the history, culture, and achievements of the ancient Mayan civilization. The personalized tour allowed us to explore at a relaxed pace, ask questions, and fully appreciate the remarkable stories behind these UNESCO World Heritage treasures. Standing before the magnificent El Castillo pyramid at Chichén Itzá was truly breathtaking, while Tulum offered a completely different but equally spectacular experience, with its ancient ruins overlooking the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. The combination of history, architecture, and stunning natural scenery made every moment memorable. The entire experience was seamless, well organized, and perfectly tailored for our private group. I highly recommend visiting Chichén Itzá and Tulum with a private guide for a deeper, more immersive understanding of Mexico’s rich heritage. It is a journey that beautifully combines history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes.
What a wonderful daytrip with a small english speaking group, our fantastic guide Marco & driver Aurelio on July 12th 2026. The hotel pick up was on time and Marco kept us always informed about the next steps of the itinerary incl. on when the next bathroom break is possible. Small details like that help to stay relaxed throughout the day. Snacks and drinks were always accessible in the car, lunch in Valladolid was plenty and tasty and accommodated different diets (e.g. vegetarian). The sun at Chichen Itza was relentless, but Marco made sure to find shadows in between his explanations and demonstrations around the ruins. We intentionally arrived early and could see the masses coming in as we left the site. The timing was excellent! Also, there is no better way to wind down other than jumping into a nice cool Cenote. Just bliss. Be mentally prepared to walk down some stairs to the water (and up again when you want to leave) though. 😉 We recommend!
I can’t recommend this tour enough! Things to keep in mind when deciding to book, which mattered a lot to a very type A girl like me and really stood out: -This is a small group tour and there was only 10 of us, which made for a very manageable group tour to maintain. There were no delays and no waiting around for a large group. -Having Marco as our guide and Aurelio as our driver was super helpful as we were able to safely leave items in the car with Aurelio and not stress about them being taken. Chichen Itza was hot and busy, so not having to carry around our change of clothes for the cenote was absolutely incredible and not something I overlooked. - There are NO hidden fees as some tour companies try to sneak on you. Chichen Itza admission, lunch in Valladolid, entrance to cenote, lockers and life jackets, everything was included in our initial price. We did not pay for anything besides our souvenirs and tipping our fantastic guides. -Water and snacks were provided in the van and we also made multiple stops with opportunities for snacks and souvenir shopping. Our experience on the tour: My boyfriend and I booked the world wonders tour to Chichen Itza, Valladolid, and a cenote. We stayed in Playa del Carmen and were picked up early by our incredible driver, Aurelio. He was friendly, communicative, and timely. We then picked up our tour guide, Marco, and the rest of the guests. Marco was knowledgeable, patient, fun, engaging, and outgoing. Every quality you could want in a tour guide. We started at Chichen Itza to beat the heat and crowd, and were there for about 2 hours. Then we headed to Valladolid for a delicious lunch and a bit of free time to explore the main square. We walked around the chocolate shop and the park area for souvenirs. Last, and our highlight of the day, was swimming in the beautiful Xux Ha cenote. It was nearly empty so our group had it mostly to ourselves. It was the perfect way to cool down after a long hot day exploring. We were then dropped back at our hotel after what was the highlight of our week in Playa del Carmen.

The day ran smoothly, travel was comfortable, and our tour guide, Tania, was extremely knowledgable. A good variety of activities to fit into one day but it didn’t feel rushed.
