A 3-Hour Private Guided Tour Through Amsterdam with a Local

Description
A guided tour through Amsterdam with a local. During this tour, I will tell you about life in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and some general history, Show you things you wouldn't find on your own and give you recommendations. Most importantly, we try to figure out the heart of the Dutch experience through a uniquely Dutch concept we call "Gezelligheid". 'What does that mean?' you may wonder. Well, It's not translatable. 'Gezelligheid' is something one can only experience - and that's what we'll do! During the tour, I will take you by the must-sees like Dam Square, Red Light District and Rembrandt House, but also some secret places you'll never find alone! We might even get some traditional Dutch treats like "Stroopwafel" or "Bitterballen" if we want to turn up the "gezelligheid" to the max. If you want to see more of the city, just add hours to the tour and we can adjust it anywhere between 3 and 6 hours.

Itinerary
Here we will see two of the most iconic sites in Amsterdam, that every traveler must see. It's the war memorial on Dam Square, and the Royal Palace right across from it. The square also functions as a place for modern day demonstrations, protests and gatherings which I can tell you all about. Let's see what they have in store for us on our visit!
Our greatest and most luxurious shopping mall. You'll find all the top brands here at the main level, but the others levels have more to offer. I used to come here with my grandma to have some tea and apple pie.
The first and oldest stock exchange in the world. Originally brought about to sell shares in the East Indies Company, the company that made Amsterdam rich. They were the first to get the idea of selling shares, thus this place is the birthplace of the modern day stock exchange.
The Red Light Distrcit is well known to the outside world. The place is in continues flux and has a different character every decade. Let me tell you latest during our tour, while I guide you through safely.
This is the heart of the city back in the middle-ages. It's home to the 15th century building known as "The Waag" right now, but it used to be the entrance to the city complete with a draw-bridge.
Beautiful house, now the Rembrandtmuseum, where Rembrandt lived most of his life. Great place to visit on any occasion, and especially when you've perhaps missed an opportunity to get tickets to the big museums.
One of the most iconic brudges in Amsterdam. I've lived her for more than a decade, and when cycling past it I'm always anoyed by the masses of tourists wanting to take a picture there. When I finaly gave my own tours, only then did I understand why people were going there! It's because the view it offers, contrasting the bridge and canal against the buildings is unmatched.
As a local I never even noticed how special this market was! To us locals it's normal to just see the market floating on the water, but it's something special for sure!
This is a little-known place right in the heart of Amsterdam that almost no one knows about! It's an oasis of calm right in the middle of the busiest city in the Netherlands.
Residence of the mayors of Amsterdam. Currently Femke Halsema lives here.
This stop does not include entry into the house. If you want tickets for Anne Frank you need to book them far in advance. What I can do is show you the house from the outside.
The 9 streets, or 'Negen Straatjes' is one of the primary speciality artisan shopping streets in Amsterdam. You will find things you won't find anywhere else. If you are a fan of shopping I can take you here!

Jan did a great job of showing us around the city. He gave us some good information about the area and what we should do while we are here. We enjoyed our tour and would recommend him for a good tour.
Excellent guide Very knowledgeable and flexible re our itinerary Took us to many venues relevant to our interests
Jan gave us an interesting overall tour of Amsterdam. We felt it was a touch haphazard but it’s possible we weren’t clear about our interests. That said we covered a lot of ground, along with a variety of interesting social topics. We enjoyed the conversations and hearing the viewpoint of a local.
Jan kindly took us as a very last-minute booking. He was very accommodating, flexible and willing to show us so many great parts of Amsterdam, including tasty snacks and a lovely antique shop! We got to know the city a little and we have a better idea of the places we want to see more in depth. A nice introduction to Amsterdam.
We enjoyed our walking tour with Jan, and learned so much. He was also able to accommodate modifications to our route.
Jan is a charming young man with so much information to share. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 1/2 hours with him
Thank you so much Cindy!
Strolling through the streets of Amsterdam was a very pleasant way to see and learn about a very old city. Jan our guide was extremely knowledgeable, well spoken and attentive to our needs. He presented the history of the city and country in a very interesting way. Really enjoyed our time with him.
Thank you so much Patrick!
Jan was an engaging and accommodating guide who tailored our tour to our time and interests. We arrived on our cruise ship 3-hours late and our original tour was canceled. I booked Jan with only 3-hours notice and he was simply amazing! Not only were we able to see all the beauty of Amsterdam, but he took us to a beautiful outdoor cafe for a coffee break and made sure we experienced a stroop waffle at a bakery that has been making them since 1898. Jan saved the day for us and gave us the best possible tour we could have hoped for!
Jan was the perfect guide. My wife and I wanted to see some of the highlights of Amsterdam (our first trip), but we also have some limited mobility issues (can't walk for miles in a city that relies on bikes and walking as primary modes of transportation). He talked us through options prior to our visit (very responsive to e-mails), and then he modified even further during the tour to make sure we got to see as much as we could, despite our limitations. Jan knew all of the shortcuts, and he was knowledgeable on the history of Amsterdam. We will take this tour again in the future.
Jan ( Yan) was our tour guide. He was on time when he picked us up at the hotel. He’s the perfect person to give us out tour for first time tourists in Amsterdam. He’s very knowledgeable & the 3 hr. walking tour was filled with interesting information. Overall he’s an excellent tour guide &!we’ll recommend him to our friends & family. Thank you for the great experience.
