Isla Mujeres is Beautiful

Overall, this was a good excursion and we enjoyed the day. Isla Mujeres itself is absolutely beautiful, and our guides had great personalities and made the trip enjoyable. There are just a few areas that could be improved to make the experience feel more seamless and worth the price. First, Nexus/our confirmation didn't provide detailed explanation beforehand about what we would need for the excursion, we went based on search and reviews. It wasn't a huge issue, but we definitely would have brought towels, water, and more, had we known none would be provided. Water is $5 USD for 1 500ml bottle at the main shops, other places 2 for $62 MXN. Further out $2 for $30 MXN. The timing is also something to be aware of. We were picked up fairly early, so unless you're up extra early to have breakfast at your hotel, you'll likely be served drinks before any food. Food was eventually provided, but only shortly before we were getting into the water, which wasn't ideal. While they do inquire about food restrictions, we did not receive accommodation for pescatarian/vegan diet. Once we arrived on Isla Mujeres, I wish there had been a clearer and more thorough explanation of the island, where we could go, and what our options were during our free time. The rundown was very quick, and with the language barrier you really have to concentrate to understand and note everything. That was made extremely harder by salespeople in the shops (where the guides purposely bring you) trying to get your attention at the same time. One particular experience with a cigar salesman also left a very, very horrible impression. A shorter man selling cigars was extremely pushy and would not take no for an answer. He pressured my partner until he had spent all of the cash we had on hand and thought it was cute to offer my partner $10 back when he was content with his scheme. When I stepped in and spoke up for my partner (who had been saying no, we'll come back if anything), the salesman told my partner that he was "letting me control him." Mind you, the seller understood we don't smoke and wanted ONE cigar for a friend. He pushed a case of 10 on us for $140 USD. The seller blatantly challenged my declines and held my partner back when I made efforts to walk away. That crossed the line from persistent selling into being disrespectful and inappropriate, and it definitely took away from an otherwise enjoyable stop on the island. Had I not chosen to be a respectful guest on the island, that experience would have ended up terribly sad. Avoid this cigar man by all means necessary. Aside from that, very beautiful island. Golf carts were about $40USD/hr on average. I recommend renting for the full 2 hours for $80. Most golf carts hold 4 so I'd suggest teaming up with boat members to split the cost if you're open to exploring as a group. Or, just skip any other purchases and spend on this. There's also an option for taxis and guided tours. Our boat was a little late picking us up afterward, although this wasn't a major issue. All in all, we still had a good day. The guides were fun, personable, and one of the strongest parts of the experience, and Isla Mujeres is absolutely worth seeing. Was our particular experience worth the money? Not quite justifiable. Had the communication, organization, and overall flow been a little more seamless, I would say yes. Would we do this excursion again? Maybe, once some of these details are perfected.

Great catamaran and snorkling/horrible island full of scammers

The staff was amazing! They were so friendly and provided awesome service! Great snorkling! The current was strong enough you didn't even have to swim! The fish were abundant and diverse, and the reef was beautiful! Isla Mujeres is full of scammers. Our guide, Diego, warned us before we docked and I'm so glad he did. Shopkeepers and golf cart renters will look at your resort wristband and pretend they know you from the property in an attempt to get you to come in their shop or to buy from them. One man must have overheard me say my friend's name in one of the shops because he called out to her and told her he enjoyed serving her at dinner the night before - he was not our waiter. It's so creepy and all the "cat-calling" (lack for a better term) made the shopping so stressful that I will never go back. My friend likened it to how paparazzi antagonize celebrities- incesent and loud (you couldn't carry on a conversation while walking down the street because they wouldn't leave you alone). Avoid the shopping here at all costs. Walk to the top of the island to do some more swimming or sit at a restaurant to have a drink and enjoy the view. Or better yet, ask to stay on the boat!

Awesome time!!

We had a fantastic time on this excursion! Enrique and the entire crew were amazing—friendly, attentive, and always making sure everyone was comfortable both in and out of the water. They created a fun, upbeat atmosphere that kept everyone smiling throughout the day. The snorkeling was a great experience with beautiful underwater scenery, and Isla Mujeres was absolutely gorgeous and relaxing. I highly recommend this tour! Be sure to bring some cash if you’d like to purchase souvenirs on the island and to tip the hardworking crew—they truly deserve it. Thanks again for an unforgettable day!

Lacking communication

Ticket says 830 at my hotel. Email says 830 at my hotel. I go to message them at 835 because no one is there only to find an in-app message saying my pickup was at 730. Nothing in an email. No text. Nothing to say that I should look at my in-app messages for a pickup time that’s different from what’s listed everywhere else.

Isla Mujeres sailing

Cesar and the crew were wonderful! The boat was clean and felt safe and the waters were perfect for snorkeling and swimming. Sailing (vs motor) back to shore was exquisite. We really enjoyed boat time!

No life jackets, no entertainment

It was ok, but you should now they don’t provide life jackets, the lunch is a third of a sandwich with small salad portion and they give you about 4 drinks maximum, I had to basically beg for a 5th drink to 3 different crew members. We asked a crew member if they had change for a $20 dollar bill, she replied “I don’t, but remember that we split the tips in 4 parts” suggesting for me to just give her the $20. I noticed other couples just gave them $3 or $4. I gave them $5 at the end. There’s no entertainment on board like other catamarans, just keep that on mind. If you want entertainment, life jackets, more than 4 drinks, then book an adults only or explore other options and skip this one. Just to let you know, I did other excursions to Islas Marietas, the Arch at Cabo, Cozumel Island and all included life jackets and entertainment and of course I tipped more since those little extra things were offered.

Overall great!

Our tour guide was great! Come with your swim suit already on, the first activity we did was snorkeling. Be mindful, on our boat we did not have life jackets only life safety belts that keep your waist afloat. Overall a great experience with a great music selection and great staff!
