En rundtur i de vackra bysantinska klostren och kyrkorna på Cypern tar besökarna på en historisk och andlig resa genom Troodosbergen, som visar upp öns djupa religiösa arv och fantastiska medeltida fresker. Denna resplan inkluderar Machairas kloster, Agios Ioannis Lampadistis, Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis, Panagia Moutoulla, Archangelos och Stavros tou Agiasmati – alla med sin unika charm och betydelse.

Beläget i byn Meniko, är kyrkan Cyprianus och Justina tillägnad helgonen Cyprianus och Justina, vördade för sina mirakulösa krafter mot häxeri och onda andar. Denna kyrka, med anor från medeltiden, lockar pilgrimer som söker skydd och helande. Den lugna atmosfären inuti, tillsammans med den imponerande ikonostasen, gör det till en plats för djup hängivenhet. Besökare lämnar ofta böner eller tecken på tacksamhet, vilket förstärker kyrkans betydelse som ett centrum för tro och mirakel.
Andra stoppet: Jungfru Maria Assinous kyrka. När vi går in i de pittoreska Troodosbergen kommer vi fram till Jungfru Maria Assinous kyrka, som finns med på UNESCO:s världsarvslista. Denna 1100-talskyrka är känd för sina livliga bysantinska fresker, bland de finaste på Cypern. De välbevarade väggmålningarna skildrar scener ur Bibeln och erbjuder en visuell berättelse om kristendomens läror. Kyrkans arkitektoniska elegans i kombination med dess konstnärliga skatter gör den till ett måste för både historiker och andliga sökare.
Uppflugen på en sluttning nära Kakopetria, är denna kyrka känd för sitt branta trätak, en utmärkande egenskap utformad för att skydda den från kraftigt snöfall. Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis (Sankt Nikolaus på taket) har anor från 1000-talet och är utsmyckad med några av de bäst bevarade bysantinska freskerna på Cypern, som sträcker sig över flera århundraden. De levande skildringarna av Kristus, helgon och änglar erbjuder en konstnärlig och teologisk resa genom bysantinsk historia.
Denna 1400-talskyrka i Pedoulas, som finns med på UNESCO:s världsarvslista, är berömd för sin enastående fresk föreställande ärkeängeln Mikael, avbildad i starka färger med en slående närvaro. Kyrkans arkitektur är enkel, men interiören är rikt dekorerad med detaljerade målningar som återspeglar öns senbysantinska konstnärliga arv. Pedoulas själv är en charmig by, perfekt för en avkopplande promenad och prova traditionella cypriotiska sötsaker.
Detta lilla men betydande kapell, tillägnat Jungfru Maria, är en av de tidigaste målade kyrkorna på Cypern, med anor från 1280. Kyrkan ligger i den pittoreska byn Moutoullas och har ett sluttande trätak och välbevarade fresker som återspeglar influenser från bysantinska och lokala cypriotiska stilar. Kyrkans konstnärliga värde gör den till ett måste för den som är intresserad av bysantinsk konst och historia.
Slutstation: Klostret Saint John Lampadistes. Som avslutning på vår tur anländer vi till klostret Saint John Lampadistes i Kalopanagiotis. Detta kloster, som finns med på UNESCO:s världsarvslista, är ett komplex av sammanlänkade kyrkor med lager av fresker från 1000-talet till 1400-talet. Klostret är tillägnat Saint John Lampadistes, ett vördat lokalt helgon känt för sina mirakel. Den lugna miljön i kombination med det rika historiska och konstnärliga arvet gör detta till ett passande avslut på vår resa.

The landscapes were amazing and the churches were very well preserved. Our guide was very interested and informed about the churches and monasteries and also about the culture. She taught us a lot about the habits of the local people and the history of Cyprus through the churches. I would recommend this tour.

I booked the tour and I got an email "pick up and location &time: Leonardo boutique hotel 9:05". I was there, waiting. At half past ten I phoned them and they said, that the tour was cancelled. I was furious—I had planned this trip for that day. For a normal company, that's unacceptable behavior.

This was my second experience in the Troodos mountains, which I missed first time in Cyprus. In winter such excursions are not daily. Also in this one we saw a Christmas village at the end, which were the topic of the first one. 5 UNESCO churches out of the 9+1 were to be seen, but one was closed because of the Epiphanie. However, the first church was Saint Ciprian, who was from Cyprus. The time was tight and the excursion was rather 9 1/2 hours, so exactly suitable in winter, even if one of the churches was closed. Some of the churches are outside the villages and there are great mountain perspectives. Constantin and Elena are always depicted. The last church (Saint John) is a functioning monastery with a shop.
Very interesting thanks to the very good guide/driver. Irina. She told us a lot of things about the churches, but also about Cyprus. Really interesting things. No funny jokes. We were in a small group (3 persons + Irina) in a very comfortable car.
I highly recommend this excursion, alone it is worth the whole trip and for myself I think it is the most beautiful excursion to do in Cyprus. Our guide Catherine was an exceptional guide explaining every aspect that concerned both the beautiful Churches and Monasteries, both pointing out details of the environment around us (such as flowers, plants, animals...), and explaining historical anecdotes and not to better understand life in Cyprus. We could not ask for better, I think you can not visit Cyprus and skip this experience. Thanks for everything.
Very great and interesting tour, super nice guide. It would have been great if she had water with her, as it was on all the other tours we did there.
Great day out with Irina as a guide. Nice comfortable vehicle and full day out. I thought it was a fantastic value. We saw beautifully spiritual old monasteries and churches with amazing paintings inside. We drove through the country and mountainside. Irina was highly knowledgeable and very interesting and I left the trip feeling like if there was just one trip to take in Cyprus this would be the one to take!
