Fortsätt till Toreadora Refuge, som ligger mitt i parkens högland, och korsa stigar som slingrar sig genom en fascinerande bonad av glaciala sjöar och den sällsynta Polylepis Forest, hem för några av världens högst belägna trädarter. Avsluta din upptäcktsfärd i den fridfulla Llaviuco bergiga skogen, fördjupa dig i dess lugna skönhet under en andra uppfriskande vandring. Vi börjar vår turné med hotellhämtning i Cuenca. Vi kör i ungefär en timme till tillflyktsort Toreadora varifrån vi tar en vandring i höglandet genom myrmarkens ekosystem av våtmarker och sjöar för att komma till den unika skogen med Polylepis-träd. Dessa är de högst växande träden i världen och är infödda i Sydamerika. Parken omfattar cirka 768 sjöar i ett område på 70 533 hektar. Det är en av de viktigaste vattenkällorna i Cuenca och Ecuador. Det har vunnit internationell framträdande plats i flera kategorier: Wetland of International Importance 2002 av RAMSAR, Area of International Importance for the Conservation of Birds av IBA 2003, och Biosphere Reserve av UNESCO 2013.
Efteråt kommer vi att utforska Llaviuco Cloud Forest där du kommer att kunna uppskatta kontrasten i parken på vår 1,5 timmes vandring. Om vi har tur kanske vi får se Tucans. Efter ett heldagsäventyr kör vi tillbaka till Cuenca. Vi stannar vid en lokal restaurang för lunch. Specialiteten är öring!

The hike in Las Cajas was fantastic! There were 3 other young ladies on the hike with us. We were guided by Winston. He paced the hike just right, took us to trails that were challenging and got us to excellent views. The lunch was good. The potato soup was delicious. The trout was just ok. A little bland. The warm drinks were good.

Beautiful hike through the nature reserve. Finished with a good hot meal. Make sure you wear good clothes or bring them with you. It can be cold and windy.

I enjoyed the hike, the information we got about nature through the guide. The group was not all equally fast, and the guide often already started giving explanations, so you missed it if you arrived later.
