We enjoyed a fabulous tour with Judith yesterday. Being Sunday the Rocks Market was on and our meeting point was just near the market. Judith was a friendly and knowledgeable guide who took us through the history of the rocks area from pre Settlement to the modern day. We learnt about the first fleet, the early challenges faced by the colony, the gradual establishment and development of the city. We wandered through back alleys and laneways all the while being shown little items of interest. Prior to the tour Judith asked if we had mobility issues and I said I’m not good at walking up flights of steep stairs. True to her word there was only one small flight of stairs to negotiate right at the end, but, some of the laneways however, were cobbled and worn and had quite uneven surfaces. I was glad I had my trusty hiking stick. Judith took us to places where we could get great photos of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. She told us about the threat to pull down the houses in the area for a container terminal to be built. The time flew and before we knew it two hours had passed. Judith had asked if anyone had issues with going over time before continuing over the 90 minute advertised time. We also had two primary school aged children on our tour and Judith engaged their help, asking them to point out special details along the way. Judith used a small PA system which allowed us all to clearly hear her talk. I would highly recommend this tour to any visitors to Sydney.

This tour met, and exceeded, our expectations. George, our guide, was engaging, passionate, and knowledgeable. He brought the history of the colonial origins of Sydney to the present day to life, while acknowledging the pre colonial indigenous peoples. It was both entertaining and deeply interesting to walk in the locations of these earliest inhabitants of this wonderful city. We loved the tour.
