Vänligen anländ till Nelson Mandela Gateway till Robben Island, som ligger i Silo District vid V&A Waterfront, minst 30 minuter före din planerade avgångstid. Var noga med att ta med antingen ditt originalpass eller en digital kopia på telefonen. Efter ombordstigning på den delade färjan, kommer du att njuta av en naturskön 30 minuters resa över öppet vatten till Robben Island Museum. Vid ankomsten till öns brygga stiger du av och följer med på en guidad tur ombord på en gemensam buss. Turen kommer att ledas av en före detta politisk fånge, som kommer att ge levande kommentarer om öns rika och gripande historia, och peka på bostäder för tidigare interner och andra viktiga landmärken. Upplevelsen kulminerar med ett besök i fängelsecellen där förre presidenten Nelson Mandela hölls fängslad, tillsammans med chansen att gå i hans fotspår på den ikoniska Långa promenaden till frihet. I slutet av turen återvänder ni till bryggan för er resa tillbaka.

Not a lot to see although interesting to see where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. The groups (bus load size) are too large to see or hear the guide properly. Buying tickets online through a tour operator costs more than double than paying directly at the ticket office.
Thank you Wish2c for accommodating us on the morning tour to Robben Island. Communication with the office was very easy. We were also very lucky to get the bus on the island with an actual former inmate. Most of the bus hosts/hostesses are just young people. We really learned a lot from our bus guide as well as the guide who took us through the actual prison area (he was one of the youngest inmates on the island at the time, locked up at 14 years old!). A visit to Cape Town wouldn’t be complete without seeing this infamous part of South Africa’s history and redemption. Pre-booking with Wish2c saved us time and made it easy.
