Historien om judarna i Riga är mycket rik och betydelsefull. Mycket av detta arv kan ses än idag. På tre timmar med en erfaren guide, både med bil och till fots, är det möjligt att besöka viktiga platser och få information på ett mycket koncentrerat sätt, men samtidigt enkelt och begripligt. Vänligen informera om sabbat och andra judiska religiösa helgdagar, synagogan och Riga Ghetto Museum är stängda. Turens längd beror på intensiteten i trafiken på gatan.

Flera vackra byggnader i denna del av Riga ritades av den judiske arkitekten Mikhail Eisenstein och i en av byggnaderna föddes filosofen Isaiah Berlin.
Detta är tidigare territorium i Riga Jewish Ghetto där många byggnader är i samma form som för 80 år sedan under andra världskriget.
Den 4 juli 1941 drevs mer än 300 hundratals judiska flyktingar från Litauen och lokala lettiska judar in i synagogans källare som sedan avsiktligt brändes ner till grunden. Det finns en minnesplats idag.
I november 1941 beslutade nazisten att helt utrota judiska fångar i Riga-gettot. Under händelserna som ägde rum den 30 november och den 8 december 1941 dödades mer än 25 000 människor i Rumbulaskogen, inklusive cirka tusen judar som deporterades från Tyskland. Ett komplett minnesmärke invigdes den 29 november 2002.

Rigas synagoga på Peitavasgatan är en av Rigas juveler och ett betydande kulturminne. Synagogan byggdes 1903-1905 och designades i jugendstil med antika egyptiska motiv.

Armands was a wonderful host and tour guild. His in depth understanding of Riga’s Jewish history knowledge was superb. He also shared many fascinating and captivating local stories and legends. I would highly recommend taking this 5 Star tour.

We enjoyed the tour a lot. Our guide was knowledgeable. Very knowledgeable. We saw everything we wanted and were able to spend the time we wanted at each place without being rushed. He went over time originally planned because we spent more time at each site which we thought was so kind.

This was a very comprehensive and informative tour about the Jews of Riga. It gave the history, the accomplishments, and the tragic end during the holocaust. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, and explained everything thoroughly. He gave us enough time at all the stops to do a little exploration on our own.
Armands was very knowledgeable and answered our questions. We went to several sites and witnessed memorials for the Jews that were killed in World War II. This tour is a somber tour and was presented with tact and honor for the memories of those lost. We learned much and purchased a book at the Jewish Ghetto museum.

Armands was very knowledgeable about Jewish culture and the history of Jews in Riga. We booked the tour for a Saturday which meant that a few things were closed for Shabbat. Armands was flexible and brought us to another place of interest instead.
