Privat Bazaar Trail Walking Tour i George Town

This was a great and vibrant experience. Lakshmi guided me and my two colleagues through the narrow, busy streets of George Town while telling impressive stories and exciting facts about the buildings, history, religion, people, food, and much more. We felt safe during the entire tour, as Lakshmi clearly knows the area and people very well, and we enjoyed every bite of street food that was served to us along the way. Altogether, this was a truly authentic experience which is highly recommended to others visiting Chennai.

What a wonderful experience. Lakshmi was the perfect guide. We spent a couple of hours walking in the food and flower markets, learning about the local products and customs. I had many questions along the way and we had some fascinating conversations. It was the start of a longer trip and I met up with a number of other people, and frequently imparted all the knowledge that I had learned. Would highly recommend.

There are so many highlights from our tour with Lakshmi. We experienced the bustling bazaar with our three kids and learned facts about the vegetables, neighborhood preservation efforts, and so much more in the short time we were together. Coupled with some historic facts and connections to our own family history, this was a truly memorable experience. My father was impressed that our children were able to recite facts that allowed them to assess the quality of vegetables like a true local. Lakshmi was kind accommodating of all of our needs, and a delight to work with from booking to departure. Thank you for giving us this highlight of a trip.

Laksmi was an excellent guide and she made the city come alive with what she showed us. She answered all of our questions and she is by nature a person of humour and smiles. She also recommended a place for dinner and it was fantastic and show us again another side of Chennai.

Sridharan met us right on time and led us confidently through an incredible trail of this historic market. Along the way, we discovered fascinating stalls that are still actively trading, learned the names of different produce, and heard about their historical significance. Sridharan was an excellent guide who took great care of us throughout the tour. To keep our energy levels high, we also tasted some of the produce, the taste of the butter will forever be a favourite of ours! The markets can feel chaotic and overwhelming at times, but we always felt safe and supported thanks to his kindness and attentiveness. This is an absolute must-do when visiting Chennai!

This was a highlight of our trip to Chennai. Lakshmi was just amazing so engaging. The tasting tour through the streets of George Town was so good, the food - delicious especially the Mansukh and Methi Poori. Lakshmi too her time and safely guided us through. With very little time in Chennai before flying to Sri Lanka, we were keen to experience as much of the city as possible. Meeting Lakshmi, our guide on the Bazaar Trail Walking Tour, meant we got exactly what we wanted and more. We had a fabulous market experience with Lakshmi who was able to walk and tell stories with craft and skill. The use of a mic and earpiece was a first for us and a really clever addition for a tour that plunges you into the heart of the hustle and bustle - just what we wanted! We felt very at ease with Lakshmi, she has clearly spent a long time building up trusting relationships with many of the traders thus giving us, in turn, a very genuine and welcoming experience. We met Lakshmi in George Town and from the moment she said few words with the brightest welcoming smile and sparkling eyes, we knew we were about to hear fascinating stories. We learned about the history of the bazaar, the buildings, the inhabitants, its buzzing life. It’s full of vibrancy, of colours. Lakshmi has been doing this tour for many years and the merchants recognise her and welcome her. We witnessed kindness and respect between them. We finished the tour feeling alive, full of gratitude with stories to share.

We have travelled extensively in India and Lakshmi is by far the best guide, or should I say 'story teller' that we have met. Providing us with a portable mic in the busy streets was just genius.
