När Vesuvius raseri begravde Pompeji och Herculaneum under utbrottet 79 e.Kr., var de två städerna i full prakt. Pompeji var en kaotisk hamnstad med ett myller av människor från hela platsen; Herculaneum en överdådig sommarort. Jag är en professionell reseguide med en förödande passion för arkeologi och historia. Så det här är definitivt min turné! Långt från folkmassorna kommer vi att utforska Pompeji och Herculaneum som går i fotspåren av sina forntida medborgare: en skrupellös köpman, en lat patricier, en mäktig matrona, en slav eller en oövervinnlig gladiator. Du kommer att lära dig om deras vardag men också politiska och kärleksintriger. Vi kommer att beundra fantastiska fresker och mosaiker och gå in i gamla tavernor, badhus och "stinkande" latriner. Jag kommer också att vara din chaufför. Under vår paus kör jag dig mjukt till en familjeägd gård på sluttningarna av Vesuvius för en otrolig kulinarisk upplevelse baserad på lokalt vin och genuin mat. Slappna av, smaker och utsikt.

Pompeji är en realtidsmaskin. Långt från folkmassorna och den upptrampade stigen kommer vi att gå tillbaka 2000 år för att upptäcka världens största arkeologiska plats. Vi kommer att korsa staden från de gamla murarna till Grand Theatre. Jag kommer att visa dig forumet, stadens politiska och religiösa centrum, och alla administrativa byggnader som omger den: Basilikan (Rättvisepalatset), Apollontemplet, Macellum (marknaden för fisk, bröd och möten), Templet av Jupiter och spannmålsmagasinen. Här finns förvarade gipsavgjutningar av offer som dog kvävda under utbrottet. Vi kommer in i lyxiga privata hem för att upptäcka deras majestätiska trädgårdar och för att beundra livfulla fresker och sofistikerade mosaiker. Vi kommer att utforska badhus och antika tavernor, bagerier (Pistrinia) och Thermopolia (vin- och matbarer). Jag kommer att presentera dig om de gamla medborgarnas vardag och kommentera deras hemligheter, politiska och kärleksintriger. Turen är i din egen takt och flexibel.
Denna upplevelse är designad för att få dig att njuta av de lokala vinerna och en enkel men mycket genuin och typisk lunch. Vår familjeägda ekologiska gård ligger vid foten av Vesuvius. Därifrån är utsikten över Neapelbukten spektakulär. Först kommer det att bli en kort guidad promenad till vingårdarna och olivlundarna för att upptäcka hur familjen producerar "Lacryma Christi"-vinerna och Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Under lunchen kommer du att smaka på flera viner. Lunchen består av en fast meny: Förrätter: Bruschetta, provoloneost, salame och capocollo-torkat fläsk Huvudsak: Spaghetti med körsbärstomaterna “del Piennolo” från Vesuvius Efterrätt: "Pastiera" - vete och ricotta kaka 5 olika viner kommer att serveras (Rosè Sparkling, White, Rosé. Red, Red Riserva och slutligen Malvasia - sött Dessertvin). Det finns en speciell meny för barn och vegetarianer. Upplevelsen ingår inte i priset för turen. Kostnaden är 28 € per person som kan betalas på plats med kreditkort eller kontanter.
Herculaneum var en lyxig romersk semesterort när den svaldes av Vesuvius under utbrottet 79 AD. Här är besöket mestadels centrerat på utforskningen av majestätiska Domus, gamla privata hem med sina intakta trädgårdar (Hjortens hus). Vi kommer att beundra levande fresker (House of the Skeleton) och de bästa glaspasta-mosaikerna som de som finns i House of Neptunus och Amphitrite. Särskilt fokus kommer att ligga på skillnaderna från Pompeji: andra våningen i byggnader, avloppssystemet och förekomsten av förkolat trä är bara några exempel. Vi kommer att uppskatta elegansen i den "kvinnliga delen" av badhuset och gå in i poolen i den antika stadens gymnastiksal. Slutligen tar jag dig till den antika stadsstranden där skeletten av 200 medborgare som dog under utbrottet trängs in i de gamla gårdarna. Turen går i din egen takt och jag är redo att svara på alla dina frågor och nyfikenheter.
Vi kommer att njuta av denna turné i skuggan av Vesuvius. Den är 4000 fot hög och det tar för lång tid att köra upp till kratern. Men vi kan ta spektakulära bilder av det från platserna Pompeji och Herculaneum.

Natalia was a great tour guide of Pompeii and Herculaneum for our party of (7) including teens. It was the hottest day and we are from Florida. We had a wine tasting lunch in between at an organic winery located on the side of Mt. Vesuvius. That was a pleasant surprise. If we had to do it again, doing both places in one day is not necessary. Pick Pompeii.
Our guide Guiseppe was extremely well informed and precise on the history of Pompei and Herculanum. We were very fortunate to have such a professional and knowledged person to show us around these two magnificent places. We highly recomend Guiseppe as a guide.
Fabulous experience. We were fortunate to meet Giuseppe as a couple in 2024 for a tour of Pompeii and Amalfi coast. We so enjoyed our experience that we booked again for our family trip with our teen daughters back to Pompeii and then for the wine tasting as suggested by G who then took us to Ravello where this time we stayed. There is so much to see in these ancient cities—such incredible pieces of history, and Giuseppe truly brought them to life. We had such a wonderful time with Giuseppe! His communication leading up to the tour was great. We even made a last minute decision to skip Pompeii because we wanted to get off the beaten path. He was overly accommodating and took us on the perfect custom trip! He was so knowledgeable about all the places we visited and took us to some hidden gems we would have never otherwise seen. Natalia had all of the knowledge, experience, organization and warmth that are hallmarks of a good guide. With her we learned more about Pompeii and Herculaneum than we ever would have on our own, and since it was a private tour, we covered far more ground than a large tour could have in the same time. Lunch and wine tasting at the Cantina Del Vesuvia (45€ each) made for a perfect break in the middle of the day. If you are interested in a private tour, I highly recommend this one.

Guiseppe, of Travel Italy (I believe), took care of us from the minute he picked us up in Sorrento in his air conditioned minivan (which seated 7). He narrated what we were seeing in the hour drive to Pompeii and his personal tour of Pompeii was the highlight of our tour of Italy. He also arranged for the wine tasting and vineyard tour and drove us all the way back to our villa in Massa Lubrense as opposed to making us drop off in Sorrento. His pre-visit email communication was the BEST. Thank you, Guiseppe, for making our tour that day so memorable and relaxing.

Would highly recommend private tour to Pompeii with guide. Are driver and guide were 1st. class and really added to the experience. However I wouldn’t recommend the wine tasting/tour. Although the wine was very good, the food was not. Also be aware the Hercaluem is closed on a Wednesday.

It's an optional within the tour and both, food and wine served, are high quality.
