It was a family oriented trip and we had a good time. You can take snacks and drinks inside or purchase food.
As a veteran health professional I feel compelled to write this review . This zoo should be renamed -Habitat Phoenix and here is why - Each animal is catered to in this non profit organization. The projects they initiate to protect the animals is beyond exceptional . After a high recommendation at the entrance - I chose the Discovery Tour - This offers a more individualized tour with more detailed information . Kathy was my guide and driver -and she was fabulously outstanding - She has been there for eight years / The animals know that she loves them and respond often accordingly . She knows every name of each animal -from giraffes to the rhino from the orangutang to the camels - She knows all the best info - who is mating with who - which is the mother and the auntie - which of them are besties etc etc . I was riveted . I felt that I can cross a safari off my list - I had front row seats to so many animals that I wanted to see with the absolute best guide ever !!!!
The Phoenix Zoo seems to have an identity crisis. We enjoyed the animals, but would have preferred more exhibits and fewer amusements. We had a lousy lunch experience at the Savannah and the gift shop is insulting if you’re a serious animal lover, unless of course it’s stuffed animals you love. We particularly enjoyed the orangutans, squirrel monkeys, and flamingoes. Trust your exhibits to entertain and educate your guests.
It’s a fun zoo, lots of animas to see. Quick trip from the airport. On the weekend we went they had some interactive kids areas. Bring your water bottle, they have refill stations, the water isn’t the best tasting but better to stay hydrated. Lots of staff around to tell you about different animals. Our favorite was the tortoises and giraffes.
This is a fairly large zoo with a lot of creatures, mostly birds. There are a lot of interactive spaces with the animals along with a massive petting zoo that seems to be open during certain times only. It is very family friendly. Be sure to bring sunscreen and water though, as there isn't much shade.
It was a good trip. I love the cats of all kinds! The nature and housing options made for the animals was nice.
Every activity is more money - it’s ridiculous to continue paying for things all throughout the zoo. Also no maps so you have no idea
Our family trip included 2 seniors, 2 adults and 8,6, and 4 year-olds for an 11-1:30 trip to the zoo. Fortunately, we went in early April, when the day was in the high 70's and comfortable. The zoo is a little pricey, and not too different from most. However, it was spotlessly clean and easy to walk through, with clear, well maintained stroller friendly paths. The Stingray Exhibit, $5 each for kids and adults, was worth it. It is right at the entrance, but was a highlight for the kids. They petted not too small stingrays and enjoyed it. The train ride around the zoo at $6 each was not too exciting and you really can't see the animals with a clear view from the train. We did walk to an excellent giraffe enclosure with adults and babies, all eating from the trees.
Great exhibits and so much to see. Even though it was a heatwave there were many shaded areas and benches to take a break.
I brought my 10-year-old granddaughter to Arizona for the primary purpose of watching a spring training game. The day before the game, I took her to the zoo… I was not prepared for the 94° weather and unfortunately there were no misters going nor were there any misting fans for sale. The latter would have made it more bearable. On top of all of that everything was as expensive as if you were going to Disneyland without all the rides. They don’t offer a printable map to make things easier to find; you could scan a barcode to get a map, but when you widen it on your phone, it becomes blurry and unreadable. The straws they give you for drinks are supposed to be nature friendly, but they are useless and you need 5-6 just to be able to finish your drink. Unfortunately, for me, I don’t ever believe I’ll be coming back.
