Mount First Gondola Ride från Grindelwald

We travelled to Grindelwald first then as we had our 4 Mountain bikes with us, we had to purchase tickets for the bikes ( we already had unlimited tickets) this was far more difficult than necessary, as we wheeled our bikes into the station, the person behind the counter refused to sell tickets unless all 4 bikes left the building, we explained that it would be incredibly difficult as the bikes weee fully loaded, therefore needed 4 people to move them, We wheeled the bikes out, then 1 person went back in to purchase tickets, then we had to push even further up hill, with 4 loaded bikes on a very hot day,into the exit / loading area, only to be greeted by an aggressive, rude member of staff, who barked that we needed to take all bags off, which was a struggle,I thought the bikes would be loaded onto a cage together including bags etc ( same as they move the "trotti bikes" but no, even the panniers had to be removed, which by now,we were really struggling, frustrated, the aggressive ( Hungarian man he told us) again barked, then grabbed each bike, man handled onto vertical racks, with zero regards to their values. We then got into the gondola, travelling up to first, arriving at the top to see our thousands of francs of bikes, in a heap on the floor, I was disgusted. We left & went to the Restaurant, which was absolutely crowded as was everywhere else at first, quite dirty & run down in places, such as shame as I hadn't been for 8 years & noticed the decline, it is sadly now a conveyor belt of tourists, such a shame as incredible views & luckily we had a lovely,amazing ride down back to Grindelwald. Sadly, even though we had spent approx 550 chf on our passes ,we felt badly treated at First, we had not experienced this at any other Trains, cable cars, buses in the Jungfrau region, we won't go to First again.

I would like to leave a comment about our experience. My family and I had really been looking forward to this day, and we truly enjoyed the place. We tried several of the activities and created many beautiful memories that we will carry with us for a long time. Unfortunately, our visit ended in a very disappointing way after an incident where we were treated very poorly by one of the staff members. Earlier during the day, we had also noticed some staff members treating tourists and other visitors in a rude and disrespectful manner. What happened at the end affected us deeply and gave an otherwise wonderful day a very negative ending. It is a shame, because the place itself is incredibly beautiful and offers an experience that can truly become a memory for life. At the same time, I am grateful that we had the opportunity to visit such an amazing place. I sincerely hope that those responsible for the operation take this seriously and spend more time ensuring that staff treat all visitors in a calm, respectful, and professional manner. Such a beautiful place deserves service and treatment that are just as good as the experience itself.

Construction at top of lift. Hopefully better after they finish. A bit of a walk to see anything (buildings, shops). Ride itself was beautiful, and there is a cliff walk with good views of mountains and valleys. Seven/ ten currently, surely higher when finished

The view was amazing. Grindelwald is the prettiest place on earth.

Yes, it is true that it is a magnificent place, clean and well-maintained, with a breathtaking view, but the cable car access is much, much too expensive; count on €80 round trip per person, so imagine when you are with several people + children at €20 round trip... not everyone has a Swiss salary

Ok, time to get real. The relaxed laws in Europe (compared to the US) are something to take into consideration when doing any activities concerning safety. Being that this was the first time we had to sign a waiver was my first clue that this was dangerous. I am referring to the mountain carts. It is very easy to lose control. The incline is steep, the rocks are jagged. If you flip, you will get injured (as I did). The brakes are sensitive and only apply to the side it is on. My dominant hand must have pressed harder, I veered into the mountainside where there was a ditch that caught my back wheel and it flipped my cart, sending me skidding. I ran into another injured rider at the bottom that ran off course and into a pole, chipping his tooth. Please learn from my stupidity and slow down. Learn the bike, test the brakes, etc. It can be a really fun time if you maintain control.

Used the cable car on July 4th. Some reliability issues: uphill one standstill of about 3 minutes; downhill many standstills of a total of 10-15 minutes in the hot sun. This should not happen.

Although there are a lot of tourists, if you are only in town for a couple days it is a great way to see the countryside, do a safe hike, see a beautiful lake and do a bit of touristy fun. The restaurants are great along the different stops and the grotto bike was a fun option to ride down.

Good experience bit expensive but worth it

Starting at Grindelward the weather was overcast and by the time we were half way up it started to snow. At the top was snowing fairly heavily which made the lookout useless as you couldn’t see anything. The ski season was closed but every5ing was cover with snow and ice which ment you couldn’t walk the trails so there was little to see or do. That being said we’re still glad we spent the money ( it’s pretty pricey). My wife loved it as she likes snow and the little we could see was lovely. There is a restaurant there which is very expensive with both self service food and drink, a bar and a seperate restaurant area with a dining room. Even in off season it was very busy and hard to find a seat. The gondola ride stops at two stations on the way up and down. One the way down you can get off and hire a bike from one to the other and then a go cart (no engine) to the next station. If you go to 5e official JUNGFRAU website you can see the different ways to come down the mountain and pre book them. Even though the top of the mountain was busy the gondolas move people quickly. You can buy tickets outside the gondola station at the base at a vending machine if you haven’t booked online. The official online website was giving a discount on the tickets so it was the cheapest was to purchase.
