One trip you need to do whilst on Madeira. A fantastic boat and great and informative crew. And yes we saw dolphins a pod of about 50 spotted dolphins. Thanks guys that made our holiday.
The staff were great and so knowledgeable about the whales, and the whole logistics were managed brilliantly - we had read some previous reviews about it being quite crowded on the catamaran and that people had struggled to see. I did struggle to see some of the time - we still saw a massive sun fish and right at the end, we managed to see the back of a whale as it came up to the surface. However, if we were to go again, I would opt for a smaller boat or one with less people as the whales are so quick, you need to have a good view to see them.
Dear Guest, thank you very much for your review. We are delighted to hear that you found our crew knowledgeable and appreciated the way the trip was organised. Regarding visibility, our ecological catamaran is a large vessel and, during busy days, it can sometimes be harder to get the perfect angle — especially because whales surface very quickly and we must follow strict rules such as keeping a 50‑metre distance and limiting the observation time. We are glad you still managed to see a sunfish and a whale at the end of the trip. For guests who prefer a more intimate experience with fewer people and closer views, we always recommend our Sea Safaris Zodiac, which takes a maximum of 18 guests and is fully dedicated to wildlife watching. Thank you again for joining us and for sharing your experience.
Absolutely awesome cruise today . Two species of whale and two species of dolphins seen today on our cruise. Information was excellent . The whole experience was excellent. Would highly recommend it
We are extremely happy with this excursion and can highly recommend it. Everything was very well organized from start to finish. The team was punctual, friendly, professional, and made the whole experience both fun and informative. We were lucky enough to see both whales and dolphins up close, which was truly unforgettable. It was an amazing experience, and we would definitely book this tour again!
Very fairly priced for the experience, it was the perfect amount of time to enjoy the waves and see the sea life as well as the sights around the edge of the island. The guides were very friendly and good at explaining the sights as well as pointing out the local sea life. The atmosphere was very lively and the amount of people on the boat was by no means unbearable.
What can I say, very disappointed. We had such high hopes for this trip and sadly were simply let down. First of all, there are too many people on the boat (around 130). We did manage to see one Bryde whale from the boat, but we were barely able to see it due to all the heads in front of us. I would say the actual whale watching time is at most a third of the allocated time of the trip (a long three hours). It seemed once we had ticked off seeing one whale, we headed back inland and did a tour of the coast line, which was fine but not what was advertised. We were baffled to find the boat completely stopping to let people go swimming (which again, was not advertised and we did not have any knowledge to bring our swimming gear so were just sat people watching instead of whale and dolphin watching!). We appreciate you can’t control the quantity of marine life spotted, but we expected to spend the whole time actively looking for them, or at the very least have an explanation as to why the wildlife watching turned into a basic tour of the island. If you are serious about wildlife watching then do not book this, we deeply regret not booking the small boat/group tour. If you are happy to just sit on a boat for three hours and enjoy the ride then go ahead, but it was simply not what we wanted.
Dear Guest, thank you for your feedback. You booked an Ecological Catamaran experience, with the possibility of observing wildlife in their natural habitat. For this type of activity, coming with very high expectations can easily lead to disappointment, we always explain that sightings are never guaranteed. We do not control the animals, we do not feed them, and we do not use sonar or any artificial methods. Everything is done in the traditional, respectful way so we do not disturb nature. There are very strict rules that we follow: keeping a 50‑metre distance, maximum 10 minutes of observation, and no more than two boats near the animals. These rules are clearly explained at departure through the microphone. Our catamaran has a capacity of 150 guests, so sailing with around 130 still allows plenty of space to move around. Regarding the swimming stop: when booking, it is stated that the **9:00 trip has no swimming**, while the **12:00 and 15:30 trips include a 20‑minute break**. The itinerary is exactly as advertised — wildlife watching, a short swimming stop, and then returning along Funchal Bay. For guests who prefer *only* wildlife watching with a small group, we offer our **Sea Safaris Zodiac**, with a maximum of 18 people and a marine biologist on board, dedicated entirely to wildlife observation for two hours. It seems this was simply a matter of reading the itinerary carefully and choosing the product that best matches your expectations.
I really liked the experience. We had the opportunity to see dolphins, whales and a turtle. The guides were spectacular. Congratulations on this project.
Very pleasant boat ride on a modern catamaran with a delightful and competent couple (pilot and guide). But no dolphins, no whales on the horizon. That said, I have often taken boat rides of this kind and I have only seen dolphins once.
On a slightly too crowded boat, we were lucky enough to end up in a school of dolphins. Was a great experience!
Wonderful trip, clean and spacious catamaran. Friendly and polite staff. Reasonably priced drinks and snacks . Best of all we saw three whales and bottle nose dolphins.
