På den högteknologiska interaktiva Lava Centre-utställningen får du lära dig om Islands födelse och tillväxt som en av världens största vulkanöar. Den har rest sig under miljontals år från ubåten North Atlantic Ridge, genom otaliga vulkanutbrott. De uppstår när en stor mantelplym lokalt tillför smält sten till magmauppflödet under de spricksegment som kantar denna ås. Utbredningen längs åsen resulterar i att de eurasiska och nordamerikanska tektoniska plattorna flyttas isär 20 kilometer per miljon år, en fingernagel om året. Interagera med vulkanerna och känn jordbävningarnas darrande. En fantastisk film som visar de senaste utbrotten på Island och ett vackert observationsdäck avrundar ett besök som du inte får missa.

På LAVA Center finns en högteknologisk, interaktiv vulkan- och jordbävningsutställning. Det är den mest prisbelönta utställningen på Island. Den berättar historien om Island och förklarar varför det är så aktivt. Den går in på detaljer om de olika vulkanerna och typerna av vulkaner. En kopia av hot spot under Island (Magma plyme) och en jordbävningssimulator kommer att få ditt hår att resa sig. En film om alla de senaste utbrotten och ett vackert observationsdäck avrundar en upplevelse du inte får missa. LAVA Center ligger precis vid huvudvägen som går österut från Reykjavík och är porten till sydkusten och Katla Geoopark.

Very friendly people to explain the welcome, beautiful film showing and everything in this building was beautiful and pleasant.

If somebody asks me about lava and geology i would point them straight to lava centre and their museum and movie. Not only is it intresting but its interactive and fun.

The Lava Center is located right on the road and has a large parking lot. At the time of our visit, there was very little going on, which was pleasant. We booked the film and tour. The film is very short and shows some of the latest eruptions. The film was okay, but it didn't necessarily have to be made. The tour through the subsequent exhibition was very interesting and really well done. All information is available in Icelandic or English. Many opportunities to interact. Duration is approximately 1 hour. One can, for example, feel the different magnitudes of earthquakes. One feels very humble and small after the visit. On the roof of the building, there is an observation platform from which one can see the various volcanoes. Unfortunately, not much can be seen in cloudy weather. The shop in the building is well-stocked and can also be visited without a ticket. As can the café. We did not visit this, but it looked nice.

I visited Lava as part of an organised tour. I was very impressed by the amount of different exhibits and the way it explained the various types and timelines involved in the whole process. It is well laid out and has enough people who could explain and answer questions.
The centre had good signage and was easy to navigate . Information as clear and facilities were clean looking. The movie was just a collection of volcano clips with loud music, which was a bit disappointing
