Vi börjar denna tur genom att köra 25 km sydost om Siem Reap stad till Kampong Phluk. Även om den är känd som en flytande by, är det inte strikt ture. Husen här flyter inte, i stället sitter de på höga stilter. Det finns cirka 700 familjer som bor här och de är 100% etnisk Khmer. De lever av att fiska och odla det lokala området. Under vägen stannar vi vid en vacker lokal by för att se rismarkens fält med kor och bufflar. De flesta husen på Kampong Phluk är på land, byggda på toppen av 8m stavar för att skydda dem mot översvämningar i monsunsäsongen när vattnet stiger. De är gjorda av en speciell typ av trä som är hållbar i både torrt och vått väder. Huvudbyggnaderna är gjorda av trä, palmblad och med tenntak. Du kan se flytande fiskodlingar, en krokodilgård, husaffärer och mobila båtaffärer också. Det finns också ett översvämt skogsområde att besöka.
Vi åker sedan tillbaka till staden Siem Reap och går till Wat Thmey-pagoden. Här är platsen för Siem Reap Killing-fälten. Du kan lära dig om den brutala Röda Khmer-regimen som leds av den ökända Pol Pot. Vår reseguide kommer att dela historien om sig själv, hans familj och vänner som hände under folkmordet.
Vi kommer också att besöka Siem Reap City för att besöka krigsmuseet som visar några av de militära fordon och vapen som användes under det långa och blodiga inbördeskriget. Vår reseguide kommer att dela med sig av sin livserfarenhet under detta krig.

Nice and just right day. Good restaurant. The market and the floating village are nice areas where you get to experience an authentic Cambodia.

This is my second time to Kampong Phluk but the perspective is completely different. The last time I was here was when the water covered the staircase to the house and this time we were able to walk on land. Walking throuh the "floating village" brought us closer to the people. Our guide Peter (Piset) was amazing. He is extremely knowledgable and shared great stories and history at each of the sites. I learned alot about Cambodia's history from 12th century all the way to more recent time. Peter is a living history book!

We decided to go on this trip and booked just 2 days before leaving for Cambodia. But it turned out to be the main highlight of our trip to Cambodia. Gent, our guide was excellent. He explained to us in detail the history, culture and way of life in Cambodia. He was very well informed and made our trip a super hit. This is a trip for anyone who wants to know, understand Cambodia and not just go sightseeing. Will definitely recommend this trip. The floating village was nice but we enjoyed the visit to the war museum and the killing fields.

We took a full day tour with Angkor Doors with tour guide Bunppeng. We took the boat ride to the floating village, visited the War Museum, the Angkor National Museum, and the Wat Thmey Killing Fields. The sites were all certainly worth the visit and we learned so much about Siem Reap beyond just the temples at Angkor Wat. The service provided by our guide was top-notch. Bunppeng not only provided us with a wealth of information about the sites we were visiting, but also shared much of his own background and family experiences living in and around Siem Reap during the turbulent years since 1975. We were grateful for all he shared with us and for his willingness to answer all our questions. If you're in Siem Reap for a few days and have done the Angkor Wat visit, this tour is a very good add-on that lets you see a lot of things all in one day, but still at a reasonable pace and for a reasonable price. Our family highly recommends this tour. And if you happen to get Bunppeng as your tour guide, then it will be even better.
