Hagia Sofia, officiellt Hagia Sofias stora moské, är en moské och en stor kulturell och historisk plats i Istanbul, Turkiet. Den var tidigare kyrka (360–1453) och museum (1935–2020). Den var den sista av tre kyrkobyggnader som successivt uppfördes på platsen av det östromerska riket, och blev färdig år 537 e.Kr., och blev världens största inre utrymme och bland de första att använda en helt pendentiv kupol. Den anses vara symbolen för bysantinsk arkitektur och sägs ha "ändrat arkitekturens historia". Från invigningen 360 fram till 1453 fungerade Hagia Sofia som katedral i Konstantinopel i den bysantinska liturgiska traditionen, med undantag för perioden 1204–1261 då de latinska korsfararna installerade sin egen hierarki. Efter Konstantinopels fall 1453 fungerade den som moské och fick sina minareter tillagda kort därefter. Platsen blev museum 1935, och ombetecknades till moské 2020.

A very interesting tour which covers all the important parts of the old town of Istanbul. Can our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and great fun. He was happy to answer any questions and made sure everyone in the group was involved. The tour was very interactive and overall a great day!
