Om du ska besöka Istanbul för första gången kommer denna kulturella och kulinariska vandringstur i Istanbul att ge dig detaljerad information om vad jag kan kalla "Essentials of Istanbul Experience". Vi kommer att besöka några av de mest kända landmärkena i Istanbul, förstå deras historiska, arkitektoniska och sociala betydelse. Vi kommer också att prova lite lokal mat, inklusive (allas favorit) turkiska desserter. Jag kommer att förklara för mina gäster några av de mindre kända och föga uppmärksammade detaljerna för varje webbplats. Upplevelsen kan skräddarsys med alla deltagares samförstånd.

En gång i tiden en del av Topkapipalatset är denna avkopplande och vackra offentliga park mer än ett rekreationsområde. Detta område spelade en mycket avgörande roll i Istanbuls, men också Turkiska republikens historia. I april är det fullt med tulpaner. I maj ersätter rosor tulpaner. Varje säsong ser det fantastiskt ut på sitt sätt.
Den första i sitt slag, Sultan Ahmed-fontänen framför Topkapipalatset är ett elegant monument i sig. Omgiven av Topkapipalatset och Hagia Sofia, får denna fontän sällan den uppmärksamhet den förtjänar. Vi kommer att undersöka dess ornament från tulpanperioden med särskild uppmärksamhet och förstå dess inverkan på staden.
Yerebatan (Basilica) Cistern är en romersk vattenstruktur från 600-talet och den största i sitt slag i Istanbul. Med oändliga rader av kolumner har den ett unikt utseende. Det anses vara en av de främsta sevärdheterna i Istanbul. Det kan finnas 30 minuters väntetid under hektiska dagar.
Detta mästerverk av ottomansk arkitektur från 1600-talet är en av Istanbuls främsta sevärdheter. Dess interiör är ett av de mest glamorösa exemplen på osmanska moskéer. Den är dekorerad med tusentals kakel och omfattande penna. Med utgångspunkt från den yttre innergården till de inre hörnen ger denna moské flera eleganta exempel på den turkiska konstnärliga smaken från 1600-talet.
Sultanahmet-torget är den antika romerska hippodromen och innehåller några av Istanbuls äldsta och viktigaste sevärdheter. Den egyptiska obelisken, ormpelaren, frimurarobelisken och den tyska fontänen är några av dessa sevärdheter. Var och en av dem har sina egna fascinerande berättelser och aspekter som inte är lätta att lägga märke till, som jag gärna delar med mig av under vårt besök.
Hagia Sofia-moskén i Istanbul är ett av världsarkitekturens mästerverk och finns med på UNESCO:s världsarvslista. Denna 600-talsbyggnad innehåller konstnärliga föremål och arkitektoniska detaljer från den romerska, bysantinska och ottomanska civilisationen. Det är ett måste i Istanbul, men av den anledningen är det långa köer som kan resultera med 1-2 timmars väntetid. (Om mina gäster föredrar att bara se byggnaden utifrån för att inte stå i långa köer kan en alternativ destination läggas till)
Som en nyckelstad på Sidenvägen och Kryddvägen, stoltserar Istanbul med närvaron av några av de bästa medeltida basarerna i världen. Den stora basaren och den egyptiska (kryddmarknaden) är fortfarande några av de mest livliga kommersiella byggnaderna i Istanbul. Beroende på mina gästers personliga preferenser kan vi besöka en eller båda av dem. Grand Bazaar är stängd på söndagar.
Även om Blå moskén är den mest besökta osmanska moskén i Istanbul på grund av dess läge i hjärtat av Gamla stan, är flera andra moskéer värda att besöka på grund av deras historiska betydelse och arkitektoniska aspekter. Särskilt Beyazit-moskén innehåller mycket intressanta funktioner som är unika i Istanbul. Vi kommer att ta en titt på dess färgglada dekoration daterad 1505.

Istanbul is an incredible city on its own, but exploring it with Unsal made the experience unforgettable. From the moment our tour began, he brought every site to life with his deep knowledge, engaging stories, and genuine passion for the city’s history and culture. He guided us through iconic landmarks including the Blue Mosque, Ayasofya, the Grand Bazaar, and even the atmospheric underground Basilica Cistern—famous for its appearance in the James Bond film From Russia with Love. At each stop, Unsal shared detailed insights that helped us appreciate not just what we were seeing, but the centuries of history behind it. What made the day even more special were the thoughtful touches he added along the way. He led us to a beautiful courtyard café for a relaxing break, and later to a traditional restaurant where we enjoyed an authentic Turkish lunch—places we never would have found on our own. Unsal was friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. His storytelling made the city’s past feel vivid and alive, and his enthusiasm was infectious. If you’re visiting Istanbul and want a guide who truly elevates the experience, I can’t recommend Unsal highly enough.
Our tour of Topkapi Palace was unforgettable, entirely thanks to our incredibly knowledgeable and humorous guide. He brought the Ottoman Empire to life with fascinating details on art, architecture, and court life that we would have otherwise missed. We loved how personalized the tour was; he tailored it to our interests, walked at our pace, and enhanced the storytelling with historical documents and photos. His care extended well beyond the tour itself, he gave us an authentic local restaurant recommendation and even helped us navigate the area afterward to shop. We had an excellent day with Unsal. He met us at our hotel. We visited the “essentials” and more. He gave lots of information (he’ll tailor depending how much you want to hear); told us history and made loads of recommendations for the rest of our stay. We ate meatballs (Turkish favourite) and later, baclava in an artisan tea house. We have had a day to remember, highly recommend this tour. 🙏🏻
We had the most memorable tour with Unsal. He has expansive knowledge of Turkish history and culture. We learned a lot of interesting facts . He provided us with detailed explanations of everything we saw. Unsal was extremely accommodating. He met us at the hotel and we started the tour right away. He has a wonderful gentle personality and made us very comfortable throughout our long hours together. He is a great storyteller and very good photographer also. He sent us all good pictures that he took. We spent wonderful day with Unsal. His tour was excellent!!! We are very grateful and have the best memories of our time together!
Unsal tailored the experience perfectly, not only for our style but also for 2 somewhat tired travellers: his pace was great and he was aware of our needs at all times. Unsal has such a wide depth of knowledge about Instanbul history, architecture and culture and makes all the information so easy to take in. This guided tour was great for our first day. Unsal was a really exceptional guide. Very professional and extremely informative. Would highly recommend. We toured these spots: Hagia Sophia, Basicalla Cistern, Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, and Grand Bazaar Lot of walking history around the highlighted areas above. Unsal was also very helpful with recommendations for restaurants and things to do outside of the tour.
