En verkligt respektingivande, 1 400 år gammal bysantinsk katedral som rymmer mosaiker, reliker och järnarbeten. Hagia Sofia var i nästan tusen år det största slutna utrymmet i världen och ses fortfarande som ett av världens viktigaste arkitektoniska monument. Det är en av Turkiets mest populära attraktioner, som dras av det rena spektaklet av dess storlek, arkitektur, mosaik och konst. Det byggdes under den bysantinske kejsaren Justinianus regeringstid på 600-talet e.Kr.
Byggd under Sultan Ahmet I:s regeringstid 1609-1616. Det är den enda moskén i Turkiet med sex minareter. På grund av sina magnifika handfärgade blå, gröna och vita Iznik-plattor har den blivit utnämnd till "Blå moskén" av européer. Den centrala kupolen är 43 m hög och är 33,4 m i diameter; den har också 260 fönster.
Hippodromtorget är bakgrunden för vagnkapplöpningar och centrum för det bysantinska samhällslivet. Av de prydnadsföremål som en gång prydde den finns bara tre kvar: Theodosius-obelisken, serpentinkolonnen i brons och Konstantins kolonn. Obelisken är i egyptisk stil och restes 1547 f.Kr. och var 60 meter hög. Den tyska fontänen ligger också inom hippodromen, byggd i Tyskland för att markera tyska kejsaren Wilhelm II:s andra besök i Istanbul; den importerades och invigdes officiellt den 1 januari 1901. Fontänens tre kupoler är dekorerade med guldmosaiker.
Basilica Cistern, eller Cisterna Basilica Turkiska: Yerebatan Sarnıcı eller Yerebatan Saray, är den största av flera hundra gamla cisterner som ligger under staden Istanbul, Turkiet. Cisternen, som ligger 150 meter (490 fot) sydväst om Hagia Sofia på den historiska halvön Sarayburnu, byggdes på 600-talet under den bysantinske kejsaren Justinian I:s regeringstid. Idag hålls den med lite vatten, för allmänhetens tillgång inuti museum.
En av de största och äldsta täckta marknaderna i världen, med mer än 58 täckta gator och över 1 200 butiker. Det öppnades 1461 och är känt för sina smycken, keramik, kryddor och mattor. Många av stånden i basaren är grupperade efter typ av varor, med speciella ytor för läderrockar, guldsmycken och liknande. Basaren innehåller två bedestens (kupolformade murverk byggda för förvaring och säker förvaring), varav den första byggdes mellan 1455 och 1461 på order av Sultan Mehmed Erövraren. Den stora basaren består av 12 stora byggnader och har 22 dörrar.

The trip was very well planned and timed. The tour guide Emre knew English very well. He was very clear and gave ALOT of eye opening information.He also helped me with finding a pretty hotel with a view after my office trip stay was over. - MOST IMPORTANTLY- He had a medical emergency last night but still came on time for the tour and was very patient with my questions . This is a must for any visitor to Istanbul - Erme the tour guide was absolutely amazing (if I could give higher than 5 stars I would) - this was a perfect tour, well timed, Emre was professional, knowledgeable and personable that made the whole experience perfect. Picked up from Hotel, professionally done, experienced the best and most friend Turkish people ever - everyone was so friendly and it made this a cultural experience and not just a history lesson. Had great food at lunchtime. The Blue Mosque and Hagia.Sophia were amazing, my favorite was the Basicila Cisterns (especially if you are a Dan Brown fan or history nerd) - Grand bazaar was an experience that you have to do in Istanbul.
