Bahia-palatset byggdes i slutet av 1800-talet av Si Moussa, en rik marockansk adelsman som tjänade som storvesir åt sultan Hassan I. Efter Si Moussas död ärvdes palatset av hans son Bou Ahmed. Bou Ahmed utökade palatset och lade till fler rum, trädgårdar och innergårdar och gav det så småningom namnet Bahia, vilket betyder "briljans".
