It is worth having the guided tour as you go into rooms not available to other visitors. We had the English tour and it was well worth it. Our guide David was able to bring to life the Esterhazy's in an informative and often amusing way. Maybe combine your visit with the Haydnhaus just down the road. Eisenstadt itself was a real surprise. A pleasant small city that has grown up around the castle with bars, restaurants and shops close by. Esterhazycan be reached by train and a walk. We're no longer young so we booked an Uber from Vienna which dropped us right at the entrance. After struggling with the Esterhazy website in German, I booked the tour through Viator which was easy and worked perfectly well.
We really enjoyed every moment of our visit to Esterházy Castle in Eisenstadt. Our guide was extremely competent and professional, he explained the history of the castle as well as its magnificent rooms and sights in great detail and was able to answer all our questions quickly and precisely. We would like to highlight how well maintained and lovingly restored the castle is, it was a real pleasure to walk through the elegant rooms. We were particularly impressed by the magnificent Haydn Hall, one of the most beautiful concert halls in Europe. The castle, which combines baroque elegance with modern presentation, is undoubtedly one of the highlights of Burgenland and a must for anyone interested in history, music and architecture.
The castle has a rich Hungarian-Austrian history. The tour was - monolingual German - professional. There was a wedding going on, so the Haydn Hall was not accessible unfortunately. The guide was genuinely interested in the histories of residents, Burgenland, its relation to the Empire.
Very bad: Despite waiting for hours, the highlight was not to visit the Haydn Hall because of rehearsals. We were not advised of this when making a telephone ticket reservation. Conclusion: One day and just under 50€ entrance fees for 2 people pointlessly screwed up. We can only clearly advise against a visit!
Professional guidance, interesting information, original conclusion!!! Recommended , small group, pleasant duration of the tour
Nice day trip from Vienna. Beautiful village on the border with Hungary, Eisenstadt has a nice old town with period houses that are worth a walk. At the beginning of the "course", stands the Esterhazy palace, which is definitely worth a visit, would be better guided because the audio guides do not offer explanations in Italian (hence the reason for the 3 stars). It is very interesting to visit the basement of the palace that houses the wine museum. The castle does not offer furniture to admire, some paintings, some musical instruments, but not to be missed is the Haydn theater Visit a little disappointing because there are rooms that without a guide you can not visit. Date of experience: December 2024
The guide was excellent and happy to answer any questions. There was also an interesting exhibition on the history of Jewish settlement.
We were going to visit the castle at 2pm today. Without a guided tour it is not possible to join a Hungarian tour and gave us some DinA4 sheets. Unfortunately, the guide was very rude. She spoke German, but only used it to show us that we were disturbing. YOU couldn't even look at things from the description. Go to the next room, I want to show the group a picture here... She stopped where to explain. You can already go to the orangery... The same was closed today, or we got lost without a tour.
We took the castle guided tour and our guide was fantastic. She tried to provide as much info as possible during the one our tour. The building is nice. Ticket was 18 euro per adults
We booked the 1 hour guided tour. The guide proved to be a proven expert of the House of Eszterhazy, the European High Nobility and made the tour extremely engaging for our children as well.
