En del av Darwins sociala historia i över 100 år, var denna majestätiska byggnad ett underhållningscentrum för både australiensisk och amerikansk servicepersonal under andra världskriget.
En byggnad före andra världskriget i hjärtat av Darwins samhälle som blev en del av marinbasen HMAS Melville under förberedelserna och försvaret av Australien.
Dessa vackert restaurerade byggnader kapslar in livet från Darwins tidiga år. Idag används de som kontor för administratören av Northern Territory precis som de var sjökommandot under andra världskriget.
Denna storslagna byggnad står till minne av den civila postkontorets personal som miste livet på denna plats under bombningen av Darwin 1942. Gå in för att se var en bomb föll och upptäck den återuppbyggda postkontorets vägg som visar sina splitter ärr. OBS: Gäster går igenom säkerhetskontroll för att komma in i denna byggnad.
Cenotaph är ett viktigt minnesmärke över nordliga territorier som tjänstgjorde under kriget. Den har utsikt över hamnen där många dog under det första flyganfallet den 19 februari 1942. Platsen var hem för det 14:e luftvärnsbatteriet som avlossade de första skotten till försvar av Australien på australisk mark.

We loved our walking tour. John was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. It was nice learning new things about Darwin, whilst learning of it's huge history - that realistically shaped Australia, without a lot of Australians ever knowing! I am a big fan of walking tours - there is something about the pace of a walking tour which allows you to hear and absorb the information given by your guide. John was a wonderful and informative guide - he knew his stuff and presented it well. I also had the good fortune to be on a tour with a group of older women who asked perceptive interesting questions which John was able to answer. I certainly now know more about the events in Darwin during WWII.

Met the guide at 8.30am, at Raintree Park, in the shade, very personable, good information and presented very well and also humour at times where appropriate. The tour was about 3km of gentle walking, plenty of stops, pointing out significant landmarks, specifically related to WW11, bombing of Darwin. Excellent 👏
