Great authentic experience. The guide was knowledgeable and people were really nice. We built palm leaves roof, visited a unique market, had a wonderful home made lunch and many more local activities
I recently organized and directed a three-week study tour in Thailand and Cambodia on the topic of CSR and Sustainable Tourism for 14 undergraduate business students from the University of Washington (Seattle, USA). During our stay in Cambodia, we used the services of Beyond Unique Escapes, which arranged various tours and other activities, including a very creative night dinner in a local village, personalized tours of Angkor Wat, attendance to a local circus, and visits to local charities. The owner of Beyond Unique, Mr. Lim, and his staff were outstanding in every area: They were efficient, responsive, and, very importantly, they designed and operated safe and sustainable tours of high educational value for my students. In addition to these tours, the students had a chance to participate in various CSR activities such as building vertical gardens and helping build a schoolhouse in a rural village—activities that the students loved! In the end, Beyond Unique Escapes delivered excellent value for money, and I would not hesitate to use them again as our DMC.
This visit worths the whole trip to Cambodia. I spent one day in a village near siem reap, touching the real life (and real suffering) of some Cambodian people. I also realized that good projects can bring hope and a bright future for the next generations. I visited the school and the monastry, I cooked a khmer specialty with a Cambodian lady and I learned how to build Palm roof: it was a complete plonge into Cambodian culture and society. Thank you HUSK for your great job, and a special thank to my wonderful guide lay Kimthet
This is probably the best tour that I have been on as far as getting the opportunity to see the real Cambodia. What you would expect to see is far from reality, you will see Cambodians who are incredibly resilient and inspiring. I walked away from this tour so inspired and wanting to be a part of this incredible movement to help support their efforts in becoming self sufficient, it’s a reality, they’re doing the hard work.
Our guide, Mr Lee, was very professional, knowledgeable, thoughtful and passionate tour guide. We have many tours in southeast asia and this is by far the most meaningful tour we had. It was everything we expected and some more. We felt that it really gave us a real glimpse into the everyday life of khmer people in the rural area. The tour started at a visit to a monastery. We then rode an ox cart and visited a local family where we planted fruit trees and learned how to weave thatches. Afterwards we learned about the HUSK program which provides jobs, school and safe housing for local communities. They are also very environmentally conscious. We saw the people who were hand-making the product for sale. It feels good to be buying things when you can really see someone making it there and knowing that they will benefit from it. For lunch, we were at another local family that cooked for us. We also learned how to make curry. The curry dish was delicious. Our last stop was to visit the HUSK school. One of the teacher was taught through the program 8 years ago and now became a teacher there. We have learned a lot from Mr Lee as he was a wealth of knowledge. He was very thoughtful and perceptive towards many problems in his country. If you are looking to learn more about the Cambodian life, this is a must do tour.
This was outstanding! Our guide Fazy is exceptional. He really cares about the community and wants to share it with everyone! He picked us up in the morning. During the car ride, he gave us some background about the tour, his own experience and the HUSK organization. We did a brief tour of the temple, took a buffalo ride, worked with a local family and helped prepare lunch with another family. These were some of the most hospitable people on the planet! After lunch Fazy took us to a local after school program, where we got to interact with some kids and watch them as they had English lessons. It was very inspiring and something we will never forget. A wonderful experience not to be missed. We highly recommend!
This is an outstanding guided tour. Our guide Farzi, had excellent English and an in-depth knowledge and passion for his homeland, Cambodia. Farzi’s own personal experiences and loss at the hands of the Khmer Rouge were a sad but fascinating learning experience for all of us including the children. The tour heads by bus out to a small road side village and market, stopping along the way to try the local bamboo-fired rice (delicious). We then went through a village of houses, built around the mangroves and rice padi’s, each rising higher on stilts as they got closer to the river and the potential for flooding. Finally onto a wonderful old working boat that took us on a gentle meander along the river and into the lake....and then back to town, the way we came. You have to experience this for yourself and this company are the team to take you!! Highly recommended.
This group has the local community in mind. They sponsor the local villages through NGO such as HUSK and there separate holiday businesses using as much local produce sand staff as possible Most of our Cambodian holiday was arrange by Beyond and the affiliates with private guide tours in temples walk and Angkor by bicycle and Cambodian cooking. But the day in the life was most sobering to see many villagers still living below the poverty line. Our family “helped” to sew palm leaves panels for a roof for a future kitchen. It makes you appreciate how fortunate we are being able to travel and not worry about poverty. It is also great to see tour companies like Beyond and their NGO’s affiliates put back to the community with things like water sanitation, free English language teaching for village children and reskilling of villagers where farming is no longer viable Definitely well worth the experience. It is out in the elements but this gives you so much more appreciation when experiencing their daily lives!
