We had a lovely sunny day for the trip. But there was a lot of wind. Our guide. Captain Banana was brilliant and explained that the water was choppy and we may have to come back if it gets dangerous. Choppy ws an understatement 🤣 We were drenched and hit some mega waves.... But finally we got to see not 1 but 4 humpback whales put on an incredible acrobatic display for us! It was incredible. We did have to cut the tour short (about 1/1.5 hrs early 😞) as it became a little dangerous. This was a little disappointing after paying for the 4hr tour, but Captain Banana got us back safely to the harbour and I suppose they cannot control the weather.
Thank you for sharing your experience! We're delighted that you were able to enjoy a sunny day on the water and witness such an incredible display from four humpback whales. Encounters like that are truly unforgettable. We're also pleased to hear that Captain Banana kept everyone informed throughout the trip and prioritized safety as conditions changed. While we understand the disappointment of having to return early, guest safety is always our top priority, especially when weather and sea conditions become unpredictable. Thank you for your understanding regarding the shortened tour. Although we can't control the weather, we're glad Captain Banana was able to get everyone back safely and that you still had the opportunity to enjoy some amazing whale sightings along the way. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you aboard again under calmer seas in the future!
I really enjoyed my 4-hour tour, during which we were lucky enough to spot several orcas: two large males and two groups of females with their calves. It was an unforgettable experience. Josh is an excellent guide—patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what he does. He took the time to share fascinating insights about the orcas and ensured that everyone on board had a great experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to see marine wildlife up close in a respectful and well-organized setting.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you had such an unforgettable experience and were able to see multiple groups of orcas, including calves, during your tour. Encounters like these are truly special. We're especially pleased to hear your kind words about Josh. His passion for marine wildlife and dedication to providing an informative and enjoyable experience are qualities we greatly value. We’ll be sure to share your feedback with him. Thank you for recommending us. We appreciate your support and hope to welcome you back on the water for another incredible wildlife adventure in the future!
Everything worked perfectly. We checked in on time and then went to the Zodiac. The guide was excellent and had an answer to all questions. We would definitely book a tour with Zodiac again.
Thank you for your great review! We're so pleased to hear that everything went smoothly from check-in to boarding the Zodiac and that you had such a positive experience on the water. It's wonderful to know that your guide was able to answer all your questions and help make the tour both enjoyable and informative. We truly appreciate your kind words and are delighted that you would choose to join us again. We look forward to welcoming you back for another Zodiac adventure in the future!
Halfway through it is said that there are almost no whales at this time of year. Kind of strange not being said in advance.
Hello Rob, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. However, we would like to clarify a few points for future readers, particularly those who understand that wildlife is exactly that—wild. Unlike attractions or zoos, wildlife operators cannot predict, schedule, direct, or guarantee the movements of animals. Wildlife tours take place in a natural environment where animals are free to move wherever they choose. No responsible operator can guarantee which species will be seen, where they will be located, or how long they will remain visible. This is clearly communicated before booking and during our tour briefings. The unpredictability of nature is not a flaw in the experience—it is the very reason many people choose wildlife tourism in the first place. During your tour, wildlife was observed, including humpback whales, which many guests consider a highlight of their visit. Regarding the distance traveled, covering large areas of water is completely normal during a whale and wildlife tour. Our captain spent the entire trip actively searching for wildlife based on recent sightings, tidal conditions, weather patterns, and animal activity reports. Sometimes this requires traveling farther from shore, and that effort is made specifically to provide guests with the best possible opportunity to encounter wildlife. The suggestion that traveling to find wildlife is somehow a negative aspect of the experience overlooks the reality of how wildlife viewing works. With respect to pricing, your reservation was made in advance at the advertised rate available at the time of booking. The promotion you referenced was a last-minute offer available only for new bookings under specific conditions. As with any promotion, it could not be applied retroactively to existing reservations. We would also like to address the comment that there are "almost no whales at this time of year." That statement is simply incorrect. During the month of May alone, we experienced days with more than 21 orcas in our operating area, along with multiple humpback whale sightings, sea lions, dolphins, porpoises, bald eagles, and a wide variety of other marine wildlife. Our region is internationally recognized as one of the premier wildlife viewing destinations on the British Columbia coast. Of course, seeing wildlife and seeing wildlife close by are two different things. Animals decide where they go, not tour operators. Some days provide extraordinary encounters, while other days require more searching and patience. That is the reality of authentic wildlife viewing anywhere in the world. We fully understand that every guest has different expectations. However, anyone seeking certainty about exactly which animals they will see, where they will see them, and how long they will remain visible is looking for something that no ethical wildlife operator can honestly provide. Nature does not follow an itinerary, and neither do whales. While we regret that the tour did not meet your personal expectations, we stand behind the professionalism of our crew, the effort made throughout the trip, and the experience that was provided. We will continue to offer authentic wildlife experiences based on respect for the animals and the natural environment rather than unrealistic guarantees. Kind regards, Jos Krynen Owner / Captain Eagle Eye Adventures
Must recommend if you are in love with nature. Our pilot Gibson, and his co-pilot Yoshi, will take you as close as possible to the humpback whales, killer whales and sea lions with respect for the well-being of the wildlife. I recommend the zodiac rather than the faster and better covered boat for shooting. You are equipped with an integral lifejacket suit to cut through the wind. As far as I'm concerned, the dream came true. Thank you to the whole Eagle eye Adventures team for this 4 hours of pure fun.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear you had such a memorable experience with Gibson and Yoshi, and that you enjoyed getting up close to the wildlife while still respecting their space. It’s great to know the Zodiac added to your experience and that the gear kept you comfortable on the water. Your kind words mean a lot to the entire Eagle Eye Adventures team. We hope to welcome you back on board for another adventure in the future!
Unfortunately I was not able to participate in the excursion booked 3 weeks before from Italy because it was canceled with a notice of only 40 hours before departure because 'missing the boat. I was offered as an alternative the afternoon tour instead of the morning one at almost double the price but this would have created problems in the already organized trips (as in the afternoon I had booked ferry to Vancouver). Having booked the night in Campbell River only for this excursion this cancellation has created a great inconvenience and I do not find it absolutely correct behavior. If you do not want to run the risk of finding yourself in the same situation choose another company.
We’re very sorry to hear about your disappointment and the inconvenience this caused during your trip. We understand how frustrating it must have been, especially since you planned your stay in Campbell River around this excursion. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected issue with the boat, we had to cancel the morning departure. Safety is always our top priority, and we would never operate a tour without being confident in the vessel’s condition. As an alternative, we offered the same tour in the afternoon at the same price, and we’re unsure where the misunderstanding about a higher cost may have come from. We completely understand, however, that this option did not work with your ferry schedule, and we regret that we couldn’t provide the experience you were looking forward to. As mentioned before sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused you.
I had an amazing time! Our guide was knowledgeable and I was lucky enough to see a Black Bear, some sea lions, deer and humpback whales! I definitely recommend!
We tried to book online and had no success. Went to the office at 8:30 am and met a very friendly receptionist. We mentioned we tried booking online, and the receptionist asked us to wait a minute. She came back to us and was able to book on the first tour if we wanted to book. We were provided a weather suit to be used on our Zodiac tour. Our tour guide was very friendly and full of information about the wildlife.
Very comfortable boat. Guide was a great guy and knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. Water was perfect and guide handled the boat well so it wasn’t too choppy. Sunny day, spotted orcas, humpback whales, dolphins and eagles.
Fun experience with the grown up kids! Really didn’t expect to use the big wet suit! But did not realize how quickly the weather can change out in the open water. Our little French captain did a great job navigating the zodiac through the white caps and we were able to stay dry and warm ! Nice little adventure . Lots of happy whales frolicking in the water! Alan
Hi Alan, Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're so glad you and your grown-up kids had fun out on the water—and yes, those big suits definitely come in handy when the weather shifts unexpectedly! It's great to hear that your captain navigated the conditions skillfully and kept everyone dry and comfortable. And what a bonus to see so many happy whales putting on a show! We hope to welcome you all back for another adventure soon.
