Bastionen är tillägnad St. James, Spaniens skyddshelgon och har använts för olika ändamål genom århundradena. Efter att ha förlorat sin militära funktion användes den som offentligt slakteri, oljedepå och tullhus.
Den byggdes på order av kejsar Fredrik II, som skapade den ursprungliga kärnan. Denna byggnad, även kallad "jordslott", är den andra i kronologisk ordning av de fyra historiska slotten i Brindisi.
Kyrkan San Giovanni al Sepolcro, eller den heliga gravens kyrka, byggdes av den heliga gravens religiösa orden före 1128, året då det första dokumentet som nämner dess existens visas.
Namnet på det arkeologiska området kommer från närvaron, från mitten av 1400-talet, av en gemenskap av slaver, främst greker och albaner, som bosatt sig i detta område sedan 1500-talet och grundade en bosättning med kyrkan San Pietro kl. dess centrum, av vilket idag inga materiella spår finns kvar.
Byggandet av katedralen symboliserade återfödelsen av staden, stödd av normanderna som en del av deras expansion mot öster. Brindisi återfick snabbt sin roll som ett viktigt kommersiellt nav mot öster, och blev en viktig transitpunkt för dem som reser från Rom till Jerusalem.
Provincial Archaeological Museum of Brindisi, uppkallat efter Francesco Ribezzo, en forskare av den messapiska civilisationen i territoriet, var en del av Brindisi Library-Museum Center, som administrerades av Puglia-regionen och grundades 1884. Samlingarna som visas täcker olika tematiska avsnitt, inklusive antikvarisk, epigrafisk och statuary, förhistorisk, Messapian, romersk och undervattensarkeologi.
De romerska kolonnerna i Brindisi anses vara en av symbolerna för staden. Ursprunget till de romerska kolumnerna i Brindisi är föremål för tre huvudhypoteser. Den mest ackrediterade teorin tyder på att de uppfördes runt 110 e.Kr. på uppdrag av kejsar Trajanus och att de representerade terminalerna på den historiska Appian Way.
Denna trappa som förbinder stadens historiska centrum med strandpromenaden är uppkallad efter den berömda poeten Vergilius från 1:a århundradet f.Kr. Vi kommer att upptäcka kopplingen mellan staden och poeten!
Lungomare Regina Margherita i Brindisi är ett av de områden, enligt min mening, vackrast för en promenad i staden, med panoramautsikt över havet och hamnen.
Efter slutet av första världskriget byggde många italienska städer monument till minne av de stupade soldaterna. This is my third audio guide tour that I have done in the Puglia region. I have really enjoyed them all! I like the format of the tour-you have freedom to take it at your own pace, stop when you want, listen to the audio clips again and the price is very reasonable! I definitely reccommend this style of tour if you don't want to do a guided tour or there is not one available! However I would say you need to have some (minimal) experience/understanding of technology to be able to download and use this guide to its full potential!
Simple route, clear explanations, ideal for taking a tour without breaking the bank and without the hassle of a paper guide.

There isn't a lot in Brindisi- this guide is great at finding what there is and explaining it with historic context. I especially enjoyed the Temple of San Giovanni- a Crusader Church from the 11th century. The architecture is that of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. The (free) archeologic museum has a fairly extensive collection of copper and bronz and Hellenistic age objects.
Excellent presentation of monuments and historical buildings. It would be interesting to get an idea of the duration of the visit before starting. Lover of old stones and history, I did the solo course in more than 3 hours. I think it would be quite different with one family or several. Another thing: you should be able to access the map from any explanation and especially be able to return to the text quickly. I found it painful to scroll constantly to switch from one to the other. Congratulations on this remarkable work.
Really really well put together self-guided tour. The Italian has 100% improved and is a real person unlike a bit ago when it seems the comments indicated it was a robot. It was somewhat difficult to figure out how to get the walking path on Google Maps, but once I did it was great because you could map everything out! Like the title says, if you love history, this is for you. It goes in depth at each of the sites in terms of when it was built, why, etc. I realized I did not care enough for all that information so didn’t do the full tour lol but it still helped a lot in terms of figuring out great restaurants to go to! Brindisi is small so you don’t necessarily need this tour, but honestly for less than $10, even if you don’t end up doing all the tour as I didn’t, it’s still worth it I think!
Excellent walking tour off Brindisi. Walk is about 2 miles and takes 2 hours with stops. Highly recommend if you are visiting Brindisi and want to know more about this great city,
