I can highly recommend this tour. Our guide Diarmaid, who grew up and lives in the area, was beyond brilliant. He was professional, informed, fascinating and clearly has considerable knowledge of the history of the area. Along with a balanced and reasoned presentation of the facts, Diarmaid readily answered our questions and engaged with us throughout the tour to make this the outstanding highlight of our short trip to Belfast. The driver seemed more interested in telling anecdotal stories than providing information. Major exception was at the Bobby Sands mural where he gave great information about the 1972 hunger strike that led to the granting of rights to political prisoners, which were taken away and led to Bobby Sands reviving the practice. But that was the last stop . I liked the driver but I felt he had more to offer.

I would just clarify that the tour is carefully presented to give a fair and balanced account of both Catholic and Protestant perspectives. Alongside the historical information/facts, I do include personal stories and local experiences, as I feel these help give visitors a better understanding of what life was actually like for people living through the conflict. I’m sorry if that came across differently on the day. There is a huge amount of history to cover, and I always encourage questions and discussions throughout the tour so that different perspectives can be explored. Thank you again for the feedback.
We booked a tour with Belfast’s Past on September 21, 2026. I emailed them through the website to ask if they could pick us up at the house where we are staying. They responded within minutes and said they would. Caolan, our driver, was right on time. He charmed us immediately with his smile and friendly demeanor. Within minutes of getting in the car, we knew we were with a knowledgeable native of this city. For 2 hours he shared unbelievable insights about Belfast, both old and new. We walked away feeling like we had a much better understanding of the pain this city has seen as well as hope for its future. We did not want the tour to end. It was an extraordinary experience and a day we will never forget.

Everyone in our family group of 11 agrees that this tour was not only the best tour we’ve been on but that it was the highlight of our trip! Everything was great, from easy pick up at our hotel to drop off at our hotel. The kindness, education and enthusiasm of our guides was simply outstanding. Our guides actually live in the area and so you get firsthand knowledge from people who know the history. Do yourself a favor and take this tour!!

A very interesting flash back in the city's painful history. Diarmaid is an excellent guide as he was raised in the community and has to share many stories. It is a highly recommended tour with a strong political and societal dimension.
