We did the 8 day mid range serengeti great migration as a private safari for our group of 5. We added : an extra day of rest on arrival, 1 extra day in western serengeti and 1 extra day hiking on Mt Kilimanjaro for a total of 11 days. Meru Slopes added the extra days at reasonable charge and no extra inconvenience to us. The trip was amazing. The great migration was a main priority, and our guide Santaely put us in the middle of the migration. Amazing. We saw the big 5. The wildlife viewing exceeded our expectations. Everything and more on our list. Accommodations and service and food were excellent, with a hot shower and a cold beer every evening. The cleanliness of the restrooms/ toilets throughout the trip surpassed all the ladies' hopes for their trip to the Serengeti wilderness. Our guide Suma, for the Kilimanjaro day hike was great, with his open conversation on life and Tanzania. He'd been to the summit +300 times. Transport to/from airport was great. No one in our group got sick. Mosquito nets were provided for our memory foam matress beds, but I only saw 2 mosquitos the whole trip. The payment method of 30% bank draft deposit to hold reservation, the balance paid by credit card just before safari departure went without a flaw just as described by our Meru Slopes agent, Shadrack. The whole trip was excellent. We went at the end of low season and we're glad for the much reduced safari jeep numbers.
I cannot say enough good things about Meru Slopes Tours & Safaris! This trip (which we customized to include 1 extra day upfront for rest, 1 extra day in Western Serengeti for the Great Migration and 1 extra for the Kilimanjaro day hike) exceeded our expectations - from excellent communication and organization by email from Shadrack before we arrived in Kilimanjaro to airport pick up (Joseph) to luxurious lodgings at all sites to exquisite food in all locations to our expert guide (Santaely) who took such great care of us at every turn, making sure that our daily needs and desires were met. He went above and beyond for our group (we were 5, including my 16-yr old son). We saw so many animals- yes, the Big 5, and Santaely shared his extensive knowledge of the animals, the ecology and Tanzanian culture. We traveled at the end of low season, grateful to miss so many safari jeeps in one area. Everyone we met was so friendly, making us feel safe and welcomed. The people (and animals) of Tanzania are beautiful. We ended with a fairly easy day hike with our driver, Joseph, and Suma (who had climbed Kilimanjaro over a hundred times - a wealth of knowledge). We left Tanzania with our hearts full, telling all our friends and family to take the time to do this unforgettable trip.
Our dream vacation really began when Victor, our (city) guide to/from the airport, picked us up. He’s an incredibly enthusiastic young man, who was eager to teach us a little Swahili, talk to us about his country, and who did an excellent job navigating us through/around some intense traffic (closed roads, blocked roads, ...) due to the Prime Minister being in town. And when the President was in town at the end of our trip, he again did a masterful job of avoiding delays. What an exceptionally happy and engaging person! Our guide throughout our safari, Douglas, did an excellent job. It was clear his goal was to make all our dreams for this vacation a reality! He managed to exceed our dreams. His depth of experience was clear from day one. Each time we encountered an animal, he somehow managed to get us positioned front and center. He educated us not just on the animals but on his country and the people. We saw every animal, except the elusive leopard. We even saw both black and white rhinos! We went in late February so we did experience a day of the rainy season, with washed out bridges and flooded roads. Yet, this didn’t deter Douglas at all. We still went out and saw all sorts of animals and beautiful lands. And of course, with the time of year, we were gifted with sightings of all the newborn animals as well. I highly recommend Meru Slopes! When local business people asked which company we were with they all had great things to say about Meru Slopes. So, if you want to be treated wonderfully, and have an experience of your life, check out Meru Slopes. We did the 8 day- Wildebeest Migration option and it was pretty darned perfect!
Meru Slopes Tours The staff at Meru Slopes was welcoming and gave us a sense of family. Both of our guides were knowledgeable and excellent drivers. Victor, our city guide had to navigate through extreme traffic and unscheduled road closers to help us get to our destinations. He could backout and turn around in complete gridlock. Douglas our Safari Guide was very knowledgeable, an excellent driver and super friendly. He could see things that that would undoubtable be missed, explain all of the details and habits of the animals and found everything and more that we were hoping to see. The Meru safari camp staff made us feel like family as well. We miss them already.
Our safari in Tanzania with Meru Slopes Tours and Safaris was an unforgettable experience. This trip was especially meaningful as I travelled with my grandmother, and the team took such great care of us. Our consultant, Leonard Mkwavi was very helpful and attentive, our guide, Max Elisa Ayo was fantastic, knowledgeable, friendly, and made the experience truly special. Everything was perfectly organised, the accommodation and food were excellent, and we were lucky enough to see all the animals we hoped for. I would highly recommend Meru Slopes Tours and Safaris to anyone considering a safari in Tanzania.
Almachius set us up with 2 days Arusha to Tarangire National Park, 3-4 Serengeti (with a hot air balloon), 5-6 Ndutu, 7-8 Ngorangoro Crater and Arusha. Our guide was Jacob and he made our trip. Knew exactly where to go and (amazingly), how to get there. The middle of nowhere. Saw pretty much every animal, bird, reptile we could have hoped for. Answered every question, swapped jokes and shared the excitement of finding hard to see wild life. Ended with 5 days on a Zanzibar beach in Jambiani with a crew of folks who made you feel right at home. Trip of a lifetime and felt like we made friends at every stop. Love and happiness to all we met.
An unforgettable safari adventure from start to finish with safari company Meru Slopes, who are based in Arusha. We visited Tarangire NP staying in a luxury tent at Tarangire Safari Lodge (where we could hear lions, zebras and elephants while lying in bed), Serengeti NP (where we did a balloon ride with Miracle Experience - highly recommended), Ngorongoro Crater and Lakes Natron & Manyara. We saw many different wild animals in their natural habitat, including the Big Five and the Ugly Five, had comfortable accommodation with ensuite, had lots of great buffet meals, all included in our package. We really enjoyed our safari adventures in our great 4x4 Landcruiser! Our local driver was a very knowledgeable guide, and his driving four-wheel driving skills were very impressive indeed. Roads are challenging but that's part of the fun! Meru Slopes was very professional and really know their stuff. Can't recommend them highly enough for a fabulous safari experience in Northern Tanzania.
Mohamed Abdallah is the perfect guide for a Tanzania safari! With expert knowledge of wildlife and ecosystems, he effortlessly locates lions, elephants, etc., while patiently explaining behaviors and reserve stories, making the trip engaging and informative. What impresses most is his care—remembering photography preferences, he secures prime spots to capture precious moments. I’d rechoose Mohamed Abdallah in a heartbeat! Highly recommend to all seeking an amazing safari—he’s your most reliable companion.
This isn’t just a trip to see animals; it’s a chance to step into a world where nature runs its course, unspoiled and magnificent. Our guide’s passion and expertise made every moment feel intentional, turning casual sightings into memories I’ll carry forever. If you’re craving a connection with the wild, the Serengeti delivers—big time.
Lubulu was our driver and guide for our 8 day safari into the Serengeti. His heritage is Maasai, so who could be better, to guide us through the area and share his knowledge. He was excellent throughout, spotting wildlife and sharing information about their behaviours. We couldn’t have asked for more. Our first safari was to Tarangire National Park. We spotted elephants, lion, zebra, and giraffe as well as several bird species. If this was just the first day we were in for a real treat. On the second day we saw a cheetah and her cub. My partner and I had waited 23 years since our first safari to see cheetah, what a thrill. We saw the big 5, the ugly 5, and more. The highlight was the wildebeest migration at the river crossing, a real spectacle, and nothing really prepares you for this event. We sat for over three hours just watching the wildebeest cross the river. The wildebeest just kept coming and coming, you could see them for miles in the distance. It was overwhelming to see the sheer numbers and watching the vultures waiting for one of them to slip up. Lubulu didn’t take us to the Maasai villages, he said his focus was on the wildlife. We did stop at a couple of craft markets, just to take a short break with the option of shopping. I thought the second one was the best. Lubulu looked after us really well. Thank you so much, and whenever I hear the lyrics of Toto Africa it will transport me back to those spectacular moments in Tanzania.
