5 - Dag Salkantay Trek till Machu Picchu : Klassisk guidad vandring

Beskrivning

My partner and I had a great time on the 5 day / 4 night trek. It was a tough hike but broken up into manageable sections each day, with plenty of breaks. Our leader, Guido, spoke perfect English and kept us informed throughout each day. He was available at all times to answer questions and provide any information that we needed. He also helped us secure both entrance and bus tickets for Machu Pichu. The accommodation was much better than expected - The company doesn't provide much detail on this in advance. Food was absolutely delicious! Scenery was spectacular!
Do NOT book with this company. You will NOT get into Machu Picchu as planned or with a guide. They claim they provide a tour to Machu Picchu (AND with your guide), but then don't actually provide it. That's kind of the most important part! Otherwise, it isn't great... I got very sick from the food and confirmed bacterial food poisoning (was fine when I left, I got it midway through the hike), hygeine is lacking at their camps. Guide was really friendly, but a bit below average. He left us to hike the last 10km ON A RAILROAD TRACK by ourselves. Worse, a 19 year old girl on the 4 day trek was left to hike this segment entirely alone. Even though she was a very competent traveller, this is still unacceptable and it seems this is their standard practice. Several members of our group had to run out of a PITCH BLACK narrow tunnel with an oncoming train in this stretch. The guide should have been there. If for some reason he had (by the company) to sit with our bags, then the company should have sent another person who knows the train schedule to make sure this doesn't happen. Yes, our group was pretty competent and plenty of people do it alone, but that is FAR beyond the point. This company is really bad.
The service provided by Machu Picchu Expedition was exceptional throughout our entire trip. From the very beginning, they paid close attention to every detail, ensuring that we had everything we needed to fully enjoy each scheduled visit. I loved learning more about Peruvian cuisine through delicious traditional dishes, which made the cultural experience even more enriching. In addition, our tour guide was outstanding. Thanks to their explanations, every landscape, snow-capped Andes mountain, jungle route, river, waterfall, and historical site came to life, allowing us to truly understand the deep cultural significance and rich history of each place. The adventure was also filled with excitement. The zipline experience was simply phenomenal—full of adrenaline and surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The accommodations were equally impressive, with warm and welcoming hospitality, and the opportunity to spend a night in the domes was a unique and memorable experience. If you are planning to visit Machu Picchu, my recommendation is clear: do not miss the opportunity to hike Huayna Picchu (Circuit 3). It is a one-of-a-kind experience, offering stunning views and unforgettable memories that will stay with you forever. Without a doubt, this was a beautiful and unforgettable journey. I 100% recommend Machu Picchu Expedition to anyone who wants to discover the best of Peru with professionalism, safety, and first-class service. I would gladly travel with them again without hesitation! 🌟
Agency: Machupicchu Expeditions (Salkantay Trek 5-day excursion) I booked this 5-day excursion with my partner, and we were forced to abandon it on Day 1 due to the negligence of the guides, the lack of basic infrastructure, and the poor response from the agency. It was a disastrous experience. 1. Language exclusion and neglect: The service is advertised as bilingual, but the reality is that the guide prioritizes English 95% of the time. The talks and important details are given exclusively in English, while in Spanish they only provide brief answers or say, "I will explain later," which never happens. It reached the point where, after lunch, they gave accommodation and schedule instructions only in English; the entire group left, and we were left completely alone, uninformed, and adrift. 2. Precarious and uninhabitable facilities: After having to go find the staff ourselves to know where to sleep, we were assigned a dome in unacceptable conditions for the low temperatures of the mountain. The door was broken and did not close properly, leaving us exposed to the extreme cold. Additionally, the toilet did not have running water. 3. Terrible customer service: When I contacted the agency via WhatsApp to report the broken door and the lack of basic water, their response was to downplay the problem. They tried to excuse themselves by saying that the service was "shared" to justify not speaking to us in Spanish, and they responded with evasions about the facilities (even confusing our complaint about the lack of water in the toilet with the charge for hot showers). Due to the lack of solutions, the nonexistent living conditions, and feeling that our health and safety were at risk, we decided to leave the tour that same afternoon and return on our own. To make matters worse, the company tried to label our justified withdrawal as a "No-Show" to wash their hands of the situation. Conclusion: If you value your safety, your money, and want to understand the explanations of the places you visit, do not hire Machupicchu Expeditions. They treat you like a second-class passenger and expose you to precarious conditions without taking responsibility for anything. We are already processing the formal complaint for reimbursement.
Everything was very good: the food, the organization, and Enrique and Elyass were great guides.
This tour is a must do! Julian was an outstanding guide who went above and beyond to make sure everyone had an incredible experience. The food was fantastic, and the trek was well organized, with breathtaking scenery. I would give more stars if I could. Highly recommended!
I had a great time with Machu Picchu Expeditions. Our guide, Enrique was excellent. He was so passionate and wanted to tell us everything he knew. We also loved his energy which kept us going when we were tired. We have the best chef Julio. He cooked restaurant standard food. He was so kind and even made guacamole from avocados that we picked. Big thanks to Carlos who looked after the horses. He was great. I definetly recommend booking with them
