The Haxhi Ali cave is the set piece of every Vlore boat trip: a sea cave big enough to take a boat inside, named after a sixteenth-century corsair who is supposed to have hidden in it. Further down the peninsula, Grama Bay is a Roman-era quarry where sailors sheltering from storms carved their names, ships and prayers into the rock — some of them more than two thousand years old.
