O anfiteatro é o monumento mais importante da antiga colônia romana que devemos admirar, cerca de dois mil anos depois de sua construção. Sua arquitetura é totalmente projetada em relação à sua vocação de lugar para grandes shows, hospedando um grande público. Em sua ascensão inicial, as arquibancadas puderam receber aproximadamente 21 mil espectadores, córregos foram habilmente organizados por uma rede de portas, galerias e escadas, em vários andares.Torne-se no início da Idade Média uma cidade próxima e fortificada, o prédio foi limpo somente no século XIX. Ele próprio, em seguida, por parte, sua função original, incluindo touradas, que lhe rendeu sua atual denominação comum de "arenas" .É hoje o monumento da cidade mais visitada, trazendo a imagem de Arles no mundo.Com um dos principais eixos de Com 136 metros de comprimento e um eixo menor de 107 metros, o anfiteatro de Arles é ligeiramente maior que o de Nîmes e o 20º classificado entre os do mundo romano. Tem uma forma de elipse. A fachada inclui dois níveis de sessenta arcos semicirculares, separados pelos pilares, seção retangular maciça. A entrada principal não era o norte como hoje, mas o oeste onde podemos ver os restos de uma escada com vista para a cidade.A cavea, espaço reservado para os espectadores, incluiu 34 stands, divididos em quatro séries: a maeniana, onde os espectadores foram divididos de acordo ao seu status social. Estima-se a capacidade inicial do monumento para cerca de 21.000 pessoas.

Foi aqui que Vincent Van Gogh passou pouco mais de um ano e durante a visita você experimenta as vistas que ele viu e pintou.

This tour was the focal point of our trip and Laurent provided an excellent day. We started in the morning with Monastere St Paul de Mausole. Experiencing where Vincent van Gogh lived and painted for a year of his life was incredibly meaningful. We also delighted to discover the Glanum archeological site nearby and the charming ville Saint-Remy de Provence with beautiful shops. Arles was fabulous, the Romanesque Saint-Trophime, the amphitheatre, and gelato (thank you Laurent!) All of this gave us Roman vibes in the South of France and we loved every minute.
Thank you for your confidence in us to organise a series of experiences for you all. It was super fun and I especially enjoyed the many threads of conversation throughout the day coupled with the beauty and history of this exceptional region with so much history and connections from the Greeks and the Romans to artists like Vincent Van Gogh, Cézanne etc etc. I'm so happy you enjoyed your time here and hope you will keep us on the return to list in the future. Chris was wonderful. The weather wasn't cooperating that day but he changed the itinerary to make sure we still saw as much as we could. He was knowledgeable, funny, and kind.

A day in Provence with Christopher is like a dream you want to keep having over and over again. There was perfect communication even before we met...with a great solution as how to see everything on my wish list. Somehow between Arles & Saint- Remy we managed to view magnificent Roman ruins, the street where Nostradamus lived, and where Van Gogh underwent treatment as he continued to paint. And the smell of the lavender just added to the mood. Besides being charming, intellectual, personable and all around delightful, Christopher was very attentive to my energy since I was still recovering from a cold and not feeling at all like myself. It truly was like being shown the in's & out's of the most charming cities by a close, personal friend. I only wish we had more time to spend (and that I had felt better). Do not hesitate to take a tour with OohProvence. It is truly an OohLaLa experience!

Nice walk through Arles. we stayed after the walk to see other sites that were not included and were glad we did. The formal tour is minimal, at best.

We had a wonderful half-day private tour of Arles with Christopher from OohProvence. He showed us, and described the history of, the major sights in the city and also some of the off-the-beaten-track side streets of this charming town. He is personable as well as very knowledgeable, and the tour felt more like connecting with a very well-informed friend. In addition, Christopher went out of his way to email some travel tips for other parts of our journey that weren't related to this tour which was much appreciated. I highly recommend OohProvence!
Fenella & Miranda, I so enjoyed our tour together. Arles is a very interesting, perhaps lesser know town. I think the fact that you managed a visit to Avignon & Aix-en-Provence coupled with a 'dusting' of Luberon villages and the Camargue alongside Arles - you managed a lot in a relatively short space of time. Arles is a charming town with a lot of hidden secrets a lot of visitors just don't get to see. For sure, we'll stay in touch and I look forward to your next visit to Provence. How nice it is to stroll "in" Arles. Narrow alleys or you should not hesitate to look up. Monuments at "every corner", nice little restaurants. Really time flies too fast and we'll have to come back to it.

A very nice city, but... the center district where arenas and ancient theater is nice but the city is dirty very dirty, whereas there are beautiful typical shops. damage
