Booked this through Viator and went for the 6 hour trip. We were supposed to be picked up in the main square at 8.30 which was changed to 8.40 on the morning by the guide. He showed at 08.55. We then had to walk to where we were originally (closer to hostel) going to meet the guide. Waited another 20 minutes. Then the bus came 3/4 full. We proceeded to a hotel where the bus was packed to full. We made a pointless stop at Tipon for a talk about how they cleared the bushes in 1907 at Machu Picchu this wasn't on the itinerary and a wasted stop. Then up to the Inca water works. This was good and interesting. We then left and made another pointless stop about Alpaca wool but more of a hard sell of the products. We then went on to Andahuaylillas, now this was the biggest con. Other tour groups went in to the church for 10 soles but this tour went up the street to a "museum, term used loosely" about corn on the cob and cocoa leaves. Nothing to do with the church at all as advertised. You could skip the museum and go in to the church yourself for 18 soles. Once back on the bus it was at this point we were told they would be stopping for lunch and he would take the orders and should be back in Cusco about 4.30 . We specifically booked the tour without the lunch and that was advertised to be back for 2.30. We made it clear this was not the tour we booked and wasn't happy with the useless stops, the lunch as we had plans at 3.30pm. The guide Marcus got us a taxi and paid the fair back to Cusco as lunch was supposed to be 30 minutes but they decided for an hour and this was at 3.30 pm in Costco at the edge. Didn't see the point of lunch at the end of the tour. Marcus was knowledgeable and a nice guy ( maybe part of the problem) as one Peruvian family didn't listen to him when it was time to get on the bus. They were always late taking pictures, buying stuff doing their own thing when it was time to move on. Even the driver was angry as kept using his horn and revving the bus to get them to hurry up. Of Marcus was firmer things would maybe have ran to plan. We were the only two English speakers on the tour and Marcus had good English and kept using informed sometimes felt less informed than the Spanish speakers. The day before we booked a tour with Get your Guide. Was far superior and would use them again, as the local company they used was excellent. The local company used by Viator for this trip best Peru travels wasn't very well organised. I will be lodging a compliant with Viator as this was not the trip we booked and we missed our other engagement at 3.30pm.
It was so nice, the guide spoke English very well. But I thought there is no lunch and could get back to Cuzco around 3, but they had lunch time (the lunch was not included) and was like a scam. Fortunately there was another van that picked me up and I could go back to Cusco without having lunch.
We did the city tour and it was excellent a unique experience with stops and the visit in more important places of the city of cusco the cathedral and qoricancha , very good work
We were quoted at the door of the Cathedral at the indicated time, the very good guide knows a lot about his work, qoricancha and the Cathedral in Cusco square totally recommended, we had no complaints
This was a very good experience and a helpful trip. Got to see many places some even on the outskirts of Cusco and learnt a lot about the Incan civilization and people. The guide was very helpful knowledable and shared many things those I could not even find in guide books. On my following days as I walked around Cusco city and visited Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu these informatio were extremely helpful.
I have been on many city tours and this was very different. This was more like a familiarization tour and the guide was very nice, patient and understanding. I had a little tough time walking due to altitude sickness and the guide was very supportive. Learnt a lot about Peru and culture which was very useful on the following days as i visited Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu among other sites.
I am not a city tour pwerson but thought of giving it a go as Cusco has a lot of history and beautiful things to know about. Samuel was the guide and his knowledge and explaining techniques were just beyond what I expected. I learnt a lot and got familiarised to the streets and many other things that I never found online or in guide books. Absolutely worth it.
