Absolutely incredible experience! Darrell from New Orleans Soul Food Tour is a superstar. He took us to the BEST soul food spots in New Orleans and gave an amazing city tour packed with history and culture. He was polite, fun, and took great pictures of us along the way. This is a must‑do if you want authentic food and a real taste of New Orleans. One of the best tours I’ve ever taken!
This was one of the highlights of our trip to New Orleans! The NOLA Soul Food Tour was so much more than a food tour. We got to learn about the city’s history, culture, and landmarks, which gave us a whole new appreciation for New Orleans. The food was outstanding at every stop, and meeting the chefs and owners made the experience even more special. The best part was how welcomed we felt. We weren’t treated like tourists, we were treated like family. That kind of hospitality is something you don’t forget. If you’re on the fence about booking this tour, do it. You’ll leave with a full stomach, a better understanding of New Orleans, and some wonderful memories.
Darrell picked us up at our hotel, so right off the bat we were at ease and got off to a great start. We played it smart and had a light dinner the night before and nothing to eat that morning, which I highly recommend because we had a ton of food! We had everything from beignets to etouffee to po boys to muffalettas. We even had what might be the best sausage ever made. Darrell shared experiences, showed us some important historical sites, and even shared a little bit of his family with us! This was an all-afternoon affair and was super affordable considering everything we experienced. It was just the two us on our tour, so it was super comfy. The best part is that you get to go to a bunch of off-the-beaten-path places you might otherwise miss. Darrell added a lot of history and facts about New Orleans that made the whole experience that much more memorable. I highly recommend this tour, you will not regret it. Just make sure you show up really, really hungry.
Long overdue, but where do I begin?!! Firstly, Darrel is AMAZING!!! When there was a conflict with the booking, he quickly called to accommodate! I was celebrating my sister's birthday. I surprised my sister with a weekend birthday trip to NOLA, including a concert! Once we'd arrived, he picked us up and man, did he show us a time... all of the DELICIOUS spots, greeted us with wine & some beautiful keepsakes! He even shared some history about the city. We ended up tapping out from pure exhaustion & from traveling that day, lol! New Orleans Soul Food Tour is well worth it & then some! I would DEFINITELY do it again & again. Thank you, Darrel! You are such a VIBE!
Mr Darryl was amazing 👏 he's the best tour guide we had so much he made our anniversary amazing thanks so much.
From pickup to drop off and everything in between this was a 10+. The food was AMAZING I can’t say enough about this experience. I feel that we learned so much in a short time. NOLA’s history and what the city has to offer is a great experience. Darryl is the best host tour guide. I feel like we made a friend for life and can’t wait to come back. Thank you Darryl for making my birthday weekend so special. Teresa and Terrence
Darrell was a great guide showed us things we would never see on our own! The food was delicious! Met some great people and saw so Great art work
If you’re visiting New Orleans, don’t just eat — experience it. Darrell, the owner and operator, crafted an extraordinary tour tailored perfectly to us. I don’t eat seafood (a rarity here!), while my husband does, and Darrell seamlessly honored both of our tastes. More than that, he truly listened when we shared our desire to understand the Black experience in New Orleans and learn Louisiana history from Black Louisianans. What followed was far more than a food tour. It was an immersive, joy-filled exploration of love, creativity, and resilience — rooted in community. We were grateful to support Black-owned businesses across the city and to learn stories we would never have discovered on our own. We left nourished — not just by the food, but by connection, insight, and gratitude. Book this tour.
Wow, thank you so much for this beautiful and deeply moving review! It was an absolute pleasure hosting you and your husband. Making sure you both had an amazing culinary experience—seafood and all—was my priority, but I am even more thrilled that the cultural and historical journey resonated with you so deeply. Sharing the authentic Black experience of New Orleans, highlighting our incredible Black-owned businesses, and telling the real stories of our community's resilience, creativity, and joy is exactly why I do this. "We left nourished — not just by the food, but by connection, insight, and gratitude." Reading those words means the world to me. That is the exact feeling I hope every guest walks away with. Thank you for bringing such open hearts and genuine curiosity to the tour, and for supporting our local community. You are always welcome back here in NOLA. Until next time! Warmly, Darrell
My group and I did a spontaneous, private tour with NOLA Soul Food Tours and let me tell you it was the highlight of our trip! So-much-so we spent two days touring with our host, Darrel. It was fascinating learning about the history of New Orleans and its neighboring parishes. Darrel is so passionate about his community that it’s impossible to leave his tours without feeling moved or inspired (especially learning the impact of hurricane Katrina on the Lower 9th Ward). Darrel’s food stops easily became our favorite eats during our trip (Po Boys at Sammy’s Deli are DELICIOUS). Darrel was such an accommodating host. His enthusiasm, his love for his community, his generosity and his humor is one we will remember forever. Darrel went above and beyond for my group to show us the BEST time. Thank you, Darrel!
Thank you so much for this incredible review! I am beyond thrilled that our spontaneous tour turned into a full two-day adventure. You all brought such amazing energy to the experience, and it was an absolute blast showing your group around. I'm so glad the Po-Boys at Sammy's Deli hit the spot—they really are some of the best in the city! But more importantly, it means the world to me that the history of the Lower 9th Ward and our community's resilience after Hurricane Katrina resonated with you. Sharing the deep-rooted history of New Orleans and its neighboring parishes is my absolute passion. Having guests who are so open, eager to learn, and fun to be around makes doing what I do an absolute joy. Thank you for trusting NOLA Soul Food Tours and for your kind words about my hospitality (and humor!). Going above and beyond is easy when I have such a fantastic group to host. Please come back and see me next time you're in NOLA—we still have plenty more to eat and explore! Warmly, Darrell
Our day spent with Darryl was over the top!! It was supposed to be from 11 to 3, but he spent extra time with us to ensure we hit all of the hot spots we wanted to see and dropped us off at our Airbnb at 5:15. And this was during Mardi Gras week! He is gracious, intelligent, knowledgeable, personable and fun!! It's impressive the number of people he knows around town. Virtually every restaurant he took us to, he introduced us to the owners. The food was outstanding! We even stopped at a cemetery and got an opportunity to speak to a groundskeeper to get an understanding of how things are done. Something we've always been curious about. One of the great things about Darryl is that he is flexible and tailors the tour to the customer. I highly recommend it.
What an amazing day we had! Thank you so much for this fantastic review. Hanging out with you all during the beautiful chaos of Mardi Gras week was an absolute blast, and I was more than happy to keep the good times rolling until 5:15! When we are having that much fun exploring the city, time just flies. I always say that the best way to experience New Orleans is through its people, so I am thrilled you enjoyed meeting the local restaurant owners. Sharing those personal connections and highlighting the folks behind the food is what NOLA Soul Food Tours is all about. "We even stopped at a cemetery and got an opportunity to speak to a groundskeeper to get an understanding of how things are done." Wasn't that incredible? That spontaneous detour was such a unique moment, and I love being able to pivot and tailor the day to whatever you are most curious about. Thank you for your incredibly kind words, but honestly, having wonderful, easy-going guests like you makes my job a breeze. I hope to see you back in New Orleans for another adventure soon! Warmly, Darrell
