We had an amazing tour with Laila! She was very passionate about the murals and the history of Diego Rivera’s murals. In addition, she was able to adjust our tour when one of the museums was closed because of a local protest. The place she took us to instead was a hidden jam and we are so grateful that we got to see it. In addition, she gave us lots of other recommendations for things to do on our trip and went out of her way to make our trip memorable. We highly recommend Laila!
My husband and I met our guide at the Museo Vivo del Muralismo a little after 10am. She was very kind and pleasant and informed us it would just be my husband and I, which was nice. She asked if we had any others plans and we informed her we had another tour at 3pm. To which she said she would then cut the 6-hour tour short! I informed her the information said the tour was 10am to 1pm, not 6 hours. We spend about 2hrs at the first museum and after I expressed concerned over the time we rushed through the lower floor and headed to Palacio de Bellas Artes. It was super crowded and due to the time, it felt rushed as well. We headed lastly to Diego Rivera Mural Museum, which is appropriately named because there is only one mural, albeit a large one. It did also however have clean bathrooms we could use. We went over the mural quickly since by now it was after 1pm, we ended at about 1:45pm. Again, the tour guide was very kind, but the information was disorganized and scattered which is probably what led to the lack of time management. Additionally, the first museum, Museo Vivo del Muralismo, which houses most of Diego Riveras murals is free, the second one Palacio de Bellas Artes is 95 pesos pp (~$5.50 USD pp) and the last museum, Diego Rivera Mural museum, was 50 pesos pp (~ $3 USD pp). So, was it worth it? You can decide.
Our guide was exceptional (David) It was a wonderful experience! We would recommend this guide and this tour.
Wonderful guide with Francisco- great passion for the murals . Excellent tour around 3 galleries .Amazing
Experiencing the Historic Center of CDMX through Diego Rivera’s murals is a must. There’s so much cultural, social, and political commentary in his work. Laila is the best!
The tour is very good. We love Rivera's work and are now much more informed. David was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about impacting his knowledge. The cost was very reasonable.
Laila was our guide and she was so knowledgeable and friendly. Her understanding of all Diego Rivera’s murals was very helpful, and my wife and I both learned much about this artist and the meaning behind his work. This particular tour was a highlights of our trip to Mexico. We both highly recommend this tour. John and Sue
My guide was Jorge and he was excellent. We met at the Museo Vivo del Muralismo . Jorge showed me the history of Mexico, the details and symbolism in Diego’s murals. He explained the necessity of the 1910 Mexican Revolution and the stages of birthing Mexico as it is today contained in the murals. He told me how the color of the paint pigment came from the earth and plants native to Mexico. The story told by these murals are important, beautiful and passionate. Next we went to the Museo de Belle Arts to see “The Man on The Crossroads”, and explore the story and symbolism contained in this mural. Jorge introduced the works of other muralists here as well. Our final stop was to see “ Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park”. Again Jorge explained the what this mural was about beautifully. This is the first private tour I have taken and I am very satisfied. Jorge was knowledgeable, and very easy be be with. I felt relaxed and engaged for the whole tour. Thank you Jorge.
We went on this tour with Francisco who was a brilliant guide to this fascinating aspect of Mexico City. He introduced us to the murals at the Museo Vivo del Muralismo, the Colegio San Idelfonso and the Museo Diego Rivera. He was extremely knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his subject, and he speaks excellent English. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and recommend it 100%.
I booked this tour through TripAdvisor, unsure of what my spouse and I were going to experience. Our guide, Jorge, was wonderful—truly the perfect guide. He provided insightful information about the murals while delivering a world-class history lesson on Mexican heritage, art, and the politics of the era. I highly recommend Jorge to anyone interested in learning more about Mexican heritage and its powerful art scene!
