Above and beyond! I feel that Shane truly cared that we had a great tour and saw as much wildlife as we could. At the end, he took us where we needed to be instead of where our tour started. Above and beyond!
We arranged to meet at the visitors centre without realizing there are 2 so we nearly missed it. Small bus tour, great local guide who did his best to make sure that we didn't miss anything with plenty of information. Followed bears, eagles and seals, would thoroughly recommend
This particular guide was talking the way we could not understand. He is an excellent driver and the mini van is very nice, warm and exquisite but it would be great to have a microphone. Plus a couple behind me were listening to the phone on speaker phone and even talk while we tried to listen to the guide. Plus it was no Russian museum, the guide told that there is no such a museum in his town.
Norman (stormin Norman!) from Seaside tourswas a great guide and gave a very thorough tour of this area. Even though the day was cloudy and wet, I really enjoyed the tour and our guide. Very recommended!
Overall, I would not want to go on this tour again. But, the tour guide was a native grew up in the area and was from an Alaskan tribe. He was fantastic and knowledgable. The tour consisted of: - Tide Pools exploration - Totem Pole Tall House/Workshop - Waterfall - Search for Bears and Whales Overall, there just wasn't enough to see or do in this tour. Let's break it down: THE TIDE POOLS were fun for the kids, picking up crabs, hermit crabs and starfish. Great picture taking opportunities for families. TOTEM POLES were interesting and our tour guide had experience in the totem pole making process. Unfortunately, the tour did not include entrance into the area where totem poles were carved and was being demonstrated. We could only look in windows to s silent craftsman showing others. There was a totem pole display area adjacent to the long house where our guide expertly described the process and stories behind the totems. There was a quick visit to the souvenir shop. WATERFALLS.. There was a small beautiful waterfall on the side of the road that we stopped and visited. SERACH FOR BEARS AND WHALES. Probably the longest and most disappointing part of the trip. We were told to keep a look out for wildlife as we drive by the ocean or in woods. We stopped at a park for 20 minutes staring at an empty park looking for nonexistent bears near the salmon ladder. The tour guide said "If this was July, bears would be all over." So no bear ...no whales. OVERALL: I was disappointed in this tour. I pushed others into this tour and felt bad they paid money. There really isn't enough to do and see or hold the interest of the group. (I fell asleep at one point). While there are interesting points, it was not enough for me recommend this tour.
We are a historical site seeing tour with a chance to view wildlife. Notice the word chance. These are wild animals. They do come an go as the please. And this is why wildlife life is not our main focus. We provided great history We had a great guide. We cover general admission cost at the native Village. An you got good information on the totem poles. Described the process as expertly, The beach provided sea creatures crabs good picture opportunities Our waterfall was Described as a beautiful waterfall. An 20 minutes waiting on wild life to present itself. To me its sounds like you had a great tour. But you judged us on the wild life. We do thank you for your review. Just a reminder. We are not a wild life tour. An we pack the 2.5 hour adventure. With everything we can In the amount of time we have with our guests.
Shane was a top-notch guide and driver! He went out of his way to provide the best experiences. As a local, he knows and appreciates the nature, culture and history of the area. He clearly is passionate about what he does. i I got to experience bear, eagles, seals, tide pools, a waterfall, and totem poles both standing and being constructed. He went the extra mile by recommending shopping and restaurant options, and even dropped people off at multiple locations when the tour was over. 10/10.
Nice tour with pickup a short walk from the port. Ketchikan is a small town and this gave a nice overview of the layout, a local beach, a pretty waterfall, and a totem pole park. We had time at each stop to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. We didn’t feel rushed and got a lot of information from our guide who was a true local. The animals come out when they want to, so while we were hopeful, there were no bear sightings, but we saw lots of eagles and a couple of seals. Shane was a great guide.
The tour was really informative about the area. We set off slightly early as it was just the two of us. Norm was our driver and guide for the day. We stopped at various points around the town to view and take photos: waterfalls, deer in the stream, various industries, properties of interest, salmon streams and Totem poles. We stopped to look at a meadow where the bears graze but unfortunately none were out today. We saw bald eagles and their nest. The tour was as described, Norm was authentic and informative. I’d recommend this tour for an overview of the area if on a short/ day visit
A really good way to see the area with a knowledgeable local. Got to see black bears and salmon and picked up lots of interesting information
Van we supposed to take broke down. We were place in a much older van The guide we had didn’t have a speaker. It was very hard to hear her
