O Grande Lago Almaty é um reservatório montanhoso localizado no Trans-Ili Alatau a uma altitude de 2.511 metros acima do nível do mar, 15 km ao sul do centro de Almaty. O lago, que faz parte do Parque Nacional Ile-Alatau, assim como a grande maioria dos lagos nas montanhas Tien Shan, surgiu como resultado de terremotos. Dependendo da época do ano, o Big Almaty Lake muda de cor – de verde claro a azul turquesa

If you are in Almaty, this trip is a must. The manager Madi was kind enough to accommodate me my request on such short notice. We visited the Big Almaty Lake, did some trekking, and even some horse riding. The highlight of the trip was the great & friendly guide, Dan, he made it fun and enjoyable & very knowledgeable, so I highly recommend him for any tour you’re considering.
Madi(the contact for Explore Kazakhstan) suggested that we begin at 7:30 in the morning. We thought it was too early but it made perfect sense later on. Apart from two other parties of 2 and 4, we were the only ones at the Lake. The silence in which we enjoyed the scenic views was priceless. Daniel, our guide, is very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We were also able to see a group of Marmots as we were climbing up from the Lake. A great experience!
