Loved this tour! our tour guide was knowledgeable and informative, will definitely recommend this company for anyone wanting tour these places., my family love it.
This was the first excursion we went on while visiting Accra. It was a beautiful way to start the trip and nice quiet reprieve from the busy parts of central Accra. Edna, our main guide, was so kind. She shared a lot of great info about the area as we drove and was a phenomenal photographer, taking great candid shots as we toured the cocoa farm and botanic garden! Both the cocoa farm and gardens were very educational and gave some interesting insights into Ghanaian history that we didn’t learn elsewhere.
This was not as advertised at all. First was pick up. I had to try different methods the night before to establish a pick up time (the company is supposed to contact YOU) and we agreed on 9 am. The next morning, the driver shows up at 8 am. I rush to get ready and get down and he’s not there. Then the car. This advertised an air conditioned car. The car had no AC (crucial issue in Ghana), was very old, and definitely had holes in the floor of the trunk because I could hear everything clearly. With no AC, it means boiling in Accra traffic while inhaling all the exhaust with the windows down. The driver clearly had never done this before because he called someone every five minutes for instructions. He was not a guide. When we got to the cocoa farm, the guide wasn’t there. He then showed up and talked on the phone and with the driver. About 5 minutes in he started the tour. The tour of the farm, advertised as an hour, lasted 15-20 minutes, a full 4 of which (I timed) were spent with my guide on a phone call about another tour. It was so unprofessionally done. Then we drove to the botanical gardens. There, the guide wrangled an employee to give me a tour. It clearly wasn’t arranged in advance. That lasted about 30 minutes, not the advertised 2 hours. I was told by the guide that I should stop taking photos in the tree lined walk because he wanted to finish the tour. Then the “craft market” was one shop the driver took me to at the gardens with almost nothing in it. He pointed at another market on the way home but didn’t offer to stop. By that point I was so hot and disappointed, I didn’t care. This “tour” which cost $180 was 2 hours of driving and 45 minutes of half-assed guiding. An absolute rip off and I have requested a partial refund from Viator.
The air was so cold and refreshing, what a lovely sight to behold, from the ride up the mountain. We took so many pictures of each and every plant and.trees which most where over a 100 years old and all had a unique story, from who bought it in and had planted them. There was this particular tree you could stand in and see right through it, into the sky. Some other had a great covering from the rain and where naughty kids could hide lol. The 1st cocoa farm in Ghana too was a wonderful experience, learning how cocoa is planted, cocoa powder is processed to finally having a taste of the fresh cocoa fruit and the dry one, so yummy, it is believed to be good in reducing high sugar level.
Overall, I was a bit underwhelmed. The company tour guide/driver arrived over an hour late for pick up after I contacted the company multiple times. Unlike the other reviews, my tour guide was not very engaging. (Though the people at cocoa farm and Botanical Gardens were wonderful). In my opinion, the experience is not worth the price of booking.
We thoroughly enjoyed this experience - full of breathtaking views of nature. Frederick was wonderful tour guide that kept it fun. Highly recommend!!
This was a fantastic excursion! Frederick is very knowledgeable and friendly. We had a flight later that day and we’re worried about getting back in time. But the trip gave us plenty of time for packing. They did a great job, and I would highly recommend!
Frederick was a great tour guide. He was able to point out the small details on the tour, as well as being available to answer any questions I had. We covered the cocoa garden, Aburi gardens as well as some craft stores. Would highly recommend this tour to any solo traveler
For my relatively short stay in Accra, Ghana, and this being my first time in Africa, I was looking for the main things to check out in the area. I was told that I had to check out Aburi Gardens, so I searched for tours that included the Gardens. I am extremely glad I came across this one! Frederick was a great, knowledgeable tour guide. He was accommodating and provided a very personal experience what would normally could feel repetitive and robotic. The tour guide for Aburi was not there so he actually did it himself, which was amazing. Knew practically every plant there! He was fun to talk to during the in-betweens of the tour. He's very aware of tourists wanting to take photos so he was both patient and helpful with taking photos himself. Thank you so much for a great tour.
It was a fantastic tour. We got all of these really interesting information about cocoa and about all the trees in the park. Frederick was just lovely, helpful, and knowledgable. It is perfect for a short and relaxing day trip out of Accra. Highly recommend!
